  1. Hello. Perhaps some of you read an article by the title of "LCS introduces art through the lens", written by Dale Palfrey in the latest Guadalajara Reporter. I am the person in the photograph, my name is Miguel Serrano. There is not much I can add that was not stated in the article already, perhaps just share that the course is not based strictly on digital photography; in fact, it aims to focus more on artistic expression, through the instrument that we call "camera". The use of analogue processes is also in our plans. I would also like to add that we have a very special group, as most attendants are already partaking in other artistic and creative endeavors, and almost all are teenagers. I am happy to report that we've been able to secure 6 point-and-shoot cameras, for which our team is very grateful. These are the cameras that we've been using thus far, but they come with their fair share of problems. To list some, one is missing a battery, two cameras use somewhat obscure methods for storing photographs, most are very limited in functionality and two are just in very bad shape. I don't mean to come across as ungrateful or unhappy, in fact, it's quite the opposite: I'm amazed that some persons were so kind as to donate this gear to us. However, this represents a problem as there are not enough cameras for the attendees, and it's left me worried as I have felt a strong interest and desire to learn from every single person that has attended our class. I am not overstating. This is a call for help. I would like to request aid in getting more cameras. It doesn't matter if it's a beat up camera, if it is old and shoots on film, if it is an "ugly" or a "bad" camera. They are all helpful. We are more focused in the photograph than the camera, but to fulfill the goals of this course it is crucial that we have the necessary tools. You can reach me by email at serrmigue@gmail.com, my cellphone number is 449 553 0197. You can also find me at the LCS gazebo every Saturday from 10 am to 12pm, where we teach the course. Additionally, you can reach out to one of my partners, Michael Searles at mbemsea@gmail.com He has made a great effort to gather all of the cameras that we have so far. Thank you.

  3. Hi I am a Mexican that has worked in the financial industry and I believe there are several misundestandings regarding how financial institutions work in Mexico. First of all... Lets talk about the bankers preparation. 99% of Bankers in MExico are University graduates. Even though, in the diverse activities that they provide to customers they are required to have (or not to have) some certifications from The Mexican Asociation of Bourse Institutions (AMIB http://www.amib.com.mx/). An AMIB certification allows a banker to provide investment advice to customers,. So yes, they are prepared at a minimal standard. Perhaps the "Issue"in Mexico, is that many institutions does not have clear controls regarding the match that must exist between the investors profile and what is being advised on their account. It is extremely important to understand what is being offered to you as an investment. Being CETE the only instrument that is almost risk free as it is government backed. Usually, a retired expat should expect to have a major part of its portfolio in CETEs and some of your money in other investment funds. Now lets talk about the bank guarantees. Bankers can lose their AMIB certification and go to jail if they incur in major wrongdoings. Also, deposits are guaranteed in case the bank fails (please note the Only if the bank fails) up to 2.5 million pesos aprox. Therefore, The only guarantee you have from an investment loss is to consider which kind of instrument you are investing and the quality of such investment. Therefore, Never Ever, under any circumstance give a Mexican Banker a Power of Attorney to manage your investments at will. This figure is called a "contrato discrecional" in Mexico. If you do not sign this, you will be required to sign a paper, or provide a telephone recorded instruction for any investment you make in your account. How to solve customer complaints to banks in MExico: Last, but not least. In the US and CA, any allegations by customers are usually solved by the bank before going to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau ( or equivalent in CA). Here In Mexico, things work out a little bit different. If you complain to your bank, there is a very little rate of success, but if you go to CONDUSEF ( The mexican financial consumer agency), you have a great chance of "winning the issue against the bank". Therefore, if your account is drained by a bank executive, or you do not recognize any transactions, you should go to the bank, ( & expect a denial of your claim) and afterwards, go to CONDUSEF, where your issue will probably get solved. Regarding Monex, I assume that most of the damage was made by a banker making fraud by falsifying customers signatures, with such executive providing instructions to drain the accounts. Thats the reason why Monex is willing to settle the claims. IF the trouble had arised from bad investment decisions, Monex wouldn´t be offering to settle to customers as it is a common practice to open Discretionary investment accounts to expats in MExico. I hope this helps you guys to understand how things work in MExico. IF you have any other questions, I will be happy to give some more insights. Regards Guillermo R.

  5. I never got the Perry Pizza thing. I ordered a delivery when he first opened. It was difficult to tell the difference between the box and the pizza. Both were hard and I imagine if I had tried to eat the box, it would have tasted like cardboard just like the pizza did. The major difference between the pizza and the box was that the box wasn't burnt!

  6. Shame, when he first opened in that garage the pizza was quite good, in our opinion. Like so many other places, success breeds either contempt or boredom of repetition and the next step is to turn things over to a low paid hourly employee who could not care less about the customer, just his/her paycheck.

  8. Yes the hours are still 10 AM to 12:30 PM. Addresses are not very helpful, but it is in La Huerta Eventos, Carretera #522. It is west of Ajijic on the Lake side of the Carretera just past the Municipal Cemetery. Regarding the comments above, it totally depends on how fresh you like your produce. If you are satisfied with week old veggies sprayed to make them look fresh or wilted greens, don't bother. If you are willing to put up with a bit of inconvenience to get vegetables picked the day before or even that morning, eggs from cage-free chickens, meat from organic non-factory farms, fresh cheese... this is the place for you. Here is the Facebook page with a map: https://www.facebook.com/LakeChapalaFarmersMarket/

  9. This is purely anecdotal based on my own experience. After many years here, this year I have had more and worse allergy attacks than any other year. Had another huge one last evening again. It's practically become a daily occurrence, sometimes twice.

  11. Is this the one that used to be Fito's long ago? With lights strung on the trees? How can you even tell when they are open? More importantly, that they have started the oven so it's ready? I just gave up.

  12. I recently had a phone problem with the ILOX service. If you encounter the same thing, an email to noc fixed it quickly. When dialing out there was just silence on the line. No ring, no pickup. The other side heard the ring, answered and spoke but on my side nothing. The second possibility was silence, then a click when the other side answered. The call went on normally. No problems with inbound calls only outbound. I sent an email to noc describing the problem. I got an email response in just a few minutes saying they'd look into it. About 5 minutes later I received a call from ILOX asking me to test it again. I don't know what they did but the problem was resolved less than 15 minutes after sending the email.

  13. Yes, you are right. Forgot about them, due to their location. And I'm in Riberas, so if they ever do get delivery (they may have by now), I am too far away. And parking on that road is nigh impossible.

  14. We find M&J to be quite good. Their current location sux, but if you live close enough get one to go and give it a try. All premium ingredients in the right proportions.

  15. yes , I have tried uber several times from Ajijic without any luck but the OP wants Airport to Ajijic which would be way easier.. WHen I travel nationally , I go and get the ticket then go and wait for luggage and this way I am out the dooor when my luggage arrives. Uber would be cheaper but I would have to go to the OXXo to wait and frankly for a 100 or so pesos less it is not worth it to me.

  16. I went when he opened in the garage. His pizza at the time was the best around. Whether or not that can be qualified against what we hold near and dear back home, I cannot say anymore. His clam chowder was also very good, and the only place that had it at the time. He operated on a shoestring, he did everything himself, and people complained about the service, so he hired a guy who couldn't be taught, and people complained again, and eventually he got it sorted. Never expected him to last; when he started training others to do the pizzas, he got very, very lucky. All those guys moved on to open their own shops. Now there is no good pizza. I will never go to Purple Garlic because of their attitude, but that's just me, so I have no opinion on their stuff. My own pizza is better than anyone's around here, and I like making it. When I go back to Canada, I hit up my favourite places and revel.

  18. Seeing all the dirty tricks the government pull to avoid giving information even when a lawyer is involved the GP stands very little chance to get information the government does not want to give.. They are dragging their feet on everythng as they are all involved in this going way back and do not want to be exposed for what they are... Yes Dale Palfry is doing a good job considering the situation.

  25. I think you find it much more difficult to find someone who can repair problems versus someone who thinks they can or recommends complete replacement. I have professionally repaired, cleaned and regrouted more sq. meters of priceless heritage ceramic and stonework than you can even imagine.

  27. Went last night to opening at new location on Ajijic Plaza it is perfect, much larger, no loud music, I had the small Greek salad and small pizza, wonderful, the surprise was my ten year old waiter, who was better than most waiters in town, I wish him luck, his father is one of the employees, a keeper..

  29. It's obvious to me that the people who have posted regarding the link that started this thread have not bothered to read the article. The article CLEARLY STATES that this new rule applies to cruise ships departing from the USA. And FYI, if you simply looked at the words in the link itself--not even the article--it should be apparent that the NYTimes thought it was political news. I don't care one way or the other, it simply seemed like travel news that would interest some members of this board. I guess "interest" means "let's all bash one another". Good grief.

  34. I want to reiterate what ComputerGuy said. Several years ago I noticed my cell phone was gobbling gigabytes, and after some research I realized my phone was updating on a daily basis--and when it was updating it didn't update the update, but updated as if from scratch, starting at 0. For several updates that could be a GB a day! Based on what I read I set my phone to manual update (instead of automatic) and I do it periodically when I am on wifi. Problem solved.

  35. My cell phones sucks MB day and night, whether awake or in sleep mode. There are many apps that provide constant notifications, and check regularly for updates, and so on. Many are intrinsic to the operating system of the company that made the phone, and cannot be uninstalled, but can often be disabled. I make judicious use of the ability to use only WiFi when at home and only data when on the road, but there are a number of confusing settings, and they are different for ever brand and even for every model within a brand. My own phone is set so it never updates a: unless I tell it too, and b: only when I am on WiFi. At this moment, there are 125 updates "waiting". It is very difficult to access someone else's WiFi without having the right tools, and sitting outside your house with a laptop and using those tools... none of which are easily available and some that case thousands of dollars. It is doubtful that any fly-by-night WiFi thief can do that, or would care enough about your specific WiFi location to even try. I recommend you dig through ALL the settings on your phone, using Google when you need help with any particular one. I might add that 100MB is not much at all when videos and voice chat is involved.
