  1. I was connected yesterday. I am a prepaid customer on the Carretera in West Ajijic. I saw them string the line past my house several months back. I emailed them one month ago and was promised a reply from another department. Nothing...so I emailed again, apologies and was told they lost my order, then had an appointment for one week ago. No show...no notification. I emailed again....another apology....trouble with the main line. With no appointment a very efficient young man showed up yesterday and installed the cable and modem. He easily followed my suggestions and was all done in 2 hours. Package is 75 MB and phone. My average download speed is 68 (up to 79) MBPS without VPN. When I test with fast.com it shows an enormous drop using VPN 20 to 30 MBPS. I verified with speedtest.com and got the same without VPN but with VPN it showed a drop of only 2 to 4 MBPS. I therefore tried a timed test opening my email service. Using a server in Texas, my email program opened slightly faster with VPN connected. This makes me dubious of fast.com's accuracy with a VPN. I encountered minor buffering using VPN, KODI and Real Debrid on 2 shows (720 hd). Other shows were fine. This can be a factor of the stream provider [ e.g. seriesonline, directdl, etc] Time will tell. I am currently happy with the ILOX service. Thanks to Tom!!

  2. I have bought sod at both of the viveros mentioned but I agree with Bisbee Gal. This is the worst possible time to put down new sod. Wait until the rains start.

  4. Regardless of the reason, I ceased to buy meat from Walmart, especially after discovering that the mysterious "sell by" date wasn't necessarily so. I buy my burger at the butchers, selecting the sirloin chunks and watching it ground on the spot.

  5. I think you should qualify your post by saying "foreigners, no lucrativo"". Mexicans and foreigners engaged in any kind of business activity here have to have domestic bank accounts for accounting and tax reporting purposes. Even if you rent out a casita, a Mexican account is necessary, and why would any Mexican or even a foreigner risk sending their funds to the US? There are a lot of good banks and bankers in Mexico and the SMA situation, if it happened as reported, is a rare exception. I have never lost any sleep over it and put it in the same category of chance as the foreigners who are murdered in Mexico, maybe even less. (edited by moderator to remove political comment)

  6. I take all Guadalajara and Lakeside weather with a grain of salt!

  7. Find some way to test the AT&T cell signal strength AT YOUR HOUSE before you assume that there is a good signal and purchase their modem. AT&T coverage is not as good as their longterm competition, Telcel. Find a friend who has AT&T, invite them over to your house for tequila. Then check their phones coverage for talk and data.

  8. All the weather websites are using Guadalajara forecasts and assuming Chapala being so close is the same. Chapala has a micro climate with very different weather than GDL. Colder in winter, hotter in summer. Rain in the afternoon but in Chapala late night. GDL receives more rain than Chapala. So read those "Chapala" forecasts with a grain of salt

  12. Do not use the WiFi connection icon as an indicator of Internet connectivity. All it means is that you are connected wirelessly to the modem, whether the modem is getting Internet or not.

  13. It hasn't been raining now, where I am, for maybe three hours. Maybe that is because I am in Seattle, where it rains way too often.

  14. The canadian government website is one credible source if I'm driving to Canada temporarily as a visitor with a Mexican plated car. Each Canadian province has its own rules. For example: A visitor can drive his/her own foreign plated car freely for up to 3 months but needs international driver's license for over 3 months.

  15. Nitrates are added to cure meats in order to keep meat in red color. The plumping process of 15 - 30% and some even 40% saltwater injected to packaged meat for flavor and freshness. Both are allowed in the US by USDA. As a result, the under layer meat changed color because it's soaked in water. We also end up paying some saltwater since it adds weight to the meat. So NO Walmart prepackaged meat.

  16. Because I shop at Costco I do buy all of my beef and pork there. I repackage it and freeze it for later use.

  17. Too many people, everywhere, seem to believe whatever they have heard, or read, last. Then, with good intentions, they pass it on, and on and on. When it comes full circle, those beliefs are reinforced and locked into their reality. That repitition is crucial to building strong beliefs and the courage to defend them and spread them. It is the very reason for going to clubs, churches, or other organization meetings on a regular basis; reinforcement of the creed! Gullibility reigns! Pass the KoolAid.

  18. I thought this better summarized what scabies is. I would like to add we has an outbreak at an LTC facility and traced it back to a woman who came in and did some of the resident's hair. Used the same instruments. You must report this to Public health who made us make up small bottles of medicine for ever person who came in contact with her. So all aides and nurses, many residents and therapists. Each needed 3 bottles. Then they said give 3 bottles to each person's family members, Since the pharmacy couldn't make that many. Myself and a few nurses worked for hours filling little bottles. Close to 500. I realized that was way overkill but State Nursing home rules. Scabies is an infestation of the skin by the human itch mite (Sarcoptes scabiei var. hominis). The microscopic scabies mite burrows into the upper layer of the skin where it lives and lays its eggs. The most common symptoms of scabies are intense itching and a pimple-like skin rash. The scabies mite usually is spread by direct, prolonged, skin-to-skin contact with a person who has scabies. Scabies is found worldwide and affects people of all races and social classes. Scabies can spread rapidly under crowded conditions where close body and skin contact is frequent. Institutions such as nursing homes, extended-care facilities, and prisons are often sites of scabies outbreaks. Yes. Products used to treat scabies are called scabicides because they kill scabies mites; some also kill eggs. Scabicides to treat human scabies are available only with a doctor’s prescription; no “over-the-counter” (non-prescription) products have been tested and approved for humans.

  20. Enlighten me why tomgates isn't right? According to: Travel.gc.ca Visitors and tourists to Canada "If you are entering Canada as a visitor, ... you can temporarily bring your vehicle to Canada for your own use... it must be exported when the time limit of your stay has been reached."

  22. The first sentence does. I have a letter from the Government of Canada that states that I am officially a Non Resident of Canada. Therefore, I can drive my Mexican plated car in Canada.

  25. It seems that the land entry INM officers don't care about your FMM form. They either tell you so or take it and throw it away. When driving I don't check in or out of Mexico and nobody cares.

  26. Canada! Why on earth would you want to travel there? I can arrange a tour of Borneo headhunter villagers if you like. Much safer than dealing with Newfy seal hunters and their metal bats, or the Mounties and there twelve foot lances. The "funny money" there with it's wildly confusing psychedelic colors, you are bound to get cheated. What other country names their coins after birds?
