  1. I have been a member of this board, under a different web name, since the board was founded. In the fall of 2008, a glitch in the Chapala.com system caused me to be unable to read or (ahem) spout off to the web boards, and I was told to create a new account here, under a different name, if I wanted to be able to fully enter the site. You joined the board in 2008? You wouldn't have a way to know that history, and it's unlikely that Chapala.com has any record of that. I came to live in Mexico in 1981, and worked as a social worker in the Tijuana city jail, AKA "La Ocho". You've been here full time for 11 years? That's a good start. "Jumex Unico Fresco..."jugo 100% natural". Notice that it doesn't say "100% jugo natural".. I stand by what I said: this advertising statement is very carefully worded to mean what the customer wants it to mean. Everybody wants to drink 100% orange juice, but that's what you get when you squeeze an orange, not what you get when you open a box of factory-processed juice. Advertising is tricky and often misleading, whether in English or Spanish.

  2. Addressing your response to my post, lets look at your first concern about the claim on the container that you contest: "Jumex Unico Fresco..."jugo 100% natural". Notice that it doesn't say "100% jugo natural"...and it goes on from there. Obviously you do not understand this since all the copy on the carton is in Spanish: JUGO 100% NATURAL in Spanish translates to English as 100% NATURAL JUICE, so your whole statement after that goes out the window. I don't intend to belittle you here, but would like to get FACTS, not opinions on this topic since I consider my health very important and have bought and consumed this product for years. I have a carton of Jumex grapefruit juice right in front of me and on one side it posts Ingredients: JUGO DE TORONJA...nothing else. On another panel in Spanish is a statement that I typed out and sent through Google Translate with this result: Spanish text: Disfruta de Jumex, el delicioso jugo de Toronja como solo naturaleza lo sabe hacer: Exprimido directamente de Toronjas, cuidadosamente seleccionadas para obtener jugo 100% natural, conservando sus beneficios y sin anadir absolutamente nada, ni agua, ni endulzantes, ni conservadores. Jugo 100% natural English translation: Enjoy Jumex, the delicious Grapefruit juice as only nature knows how to make: Squeezed directly from Grapefruit, carefully selected to obtain 100% natural juice, conserving its benefits and without adding anything, neither water, nor sweeteners, nor preservatives. 100% natural juice. I also googled Jumex and found out that is the largest juice company in Mexico. It would be hard for me to believe, even here in Mexico, that such an important company could plaster their product cartons with blatant LIES. This looks like juice, tastes like juice and until someone can PROVE differently I will continue to drink it believing that it is 100% natural juice. I have noticed that some people on this board post OPINION as FACT...this is not beneficial to anyone. Just my OPINION. I am a little sophisticated in this modern communications business so was able to sniff this out, but my concern is that others may stop consuming this perfectly good, high quality, healthy product because they read something on a well respected local web board. Just my OPINION.

  3. Not to stick my nose in your business...which is exactly what I am about to do.... but if you are having no issues I would do nothing to your probably seldom used fairly new unit(s). If it is cooling & heating OK there is nothing to do to it. Maybe clean any debris off the outside coil but.....

  4. Por favor, please check out the FACTS before you spout off. I have been travelling and doing business in México for almost 25 years. I moved here full time in April 2008 and joined this board in October of that same year. You joined this board in July 2018. More Liana joined this board in May 2008 and I respect most of her posts, but I think that I have pointed out that she is wrong on this one. Maybe she can respond, but in any case it is not that important, although I will still be buying and enjoying this 100% Natural Juice. Welcome to the board!

  6. We moved here in February of 2017. We left Ethernet speeds of 140 Mbps in the US for at best 2 Mbps here. Frustration mounted. I use a VPN for all sensitive internet interactions so that slowed it down a bit more. Often, I played Solitaire on my phone while waiting for things to download and, especially, for things to upload at 0.2 Mbps. I read about ILOX on the Chapala Web Board sometime in early 2018 or late 2017. We are very much early adopters. We researched the company on line to find that it was the highest rated telecommunications company in the country. Now, my husband and I understand Mexico. Mexico does not have a mind set at all for customer service. Not one bit! We know and accept this as the way it is. My mantra is, “Soy jubilada. Tengo mucho tiempo. No tengo prisa.” We take a breath and then we wait. It is worth it to be able to live here. So, we never got anywhere with ILOX on what they needed for us to do for the infrastructure in our small colonos. We had voted to proceed with above ground conduit along the perimeter walls as being expeditious and far cheaper. But, again, we never could get anyone to give us the information. If we had had this information when we first tried to get it, then the conduits would have been installed months sooner. But we finally got smart and lucky. We saw ILOX running the cable in our area and we had a bilingual friend talk to them. Soon we were all friends and we had a reliable contact. In February 2019 my husband and his Mexican friends did our installation which included conduit into the homes. Our original estimate of about $4000 USD was based on Home Depot (MX) prices. But our friend, Vicente, found great prices in Guadalajara. My husband donated his time, the workers were paid, and our total was about $2200 USD. In some areas the conduit on the walls is painted, in other places it is covered with cement. It went through two carports as well. As they finished the work, the guys from ILOX installation told us we would get the cable (not the modems) the next week. Well, of course it was about three weeks later that we got the cable in mid-February. The modems came in April. We were the first in our colonos and I had impressive speeds on April 4th. Now, the speeds that they promote are speeds delivered to the modem. They are NOT Wi-Fi speeds, but Ethernet speeds. My Ethernet in the US was 140 Mbps and Wi-Fi was about 80 Mbps. That is the norm. But it seems that many on the Web Board do not understand this. I also know that every internet company provides cheap modem/routers, even north of the border. I had already brought back an ASUS router that I used with the ancient Telmex modem. And with both Telmex and ILOX, these modems do not allow setting to bridge mode. But it worked with Telmex and it works with ILOX. But for the first few days of ILOX only, our casita downstairs had fine Wi-Fi. And, just like with Telmex, the Wi-Fi did not reach the farthest point in the house – my toilet. So that is not a good place to check email. It is a bit better with ASUS. The best place to put a modem/router is where you are going to use it! This also is not well understood by people down here. We have an office/den/TV room and that is where all the hardware is. I ran Ethernet to my PC and to the Fire TV. Speeds are generally 80’s to 90’s Mbps. When I put the VPN on the router it slowed it down to the 30’s so I went back to using the VPN on the devices instead where it can be turned on or off. We use Express VPN which is required to watch Amazon Prime videos and it also works to get US Netflix which we do not have. VPN speeds on my PC are generally 30-45 Mbps and are similar on the Fire TV. I use fast.com for the speed tests as suggested by Tom Kessler on the Web Board. I use a Cat 7 Ethernet cable but a Cat 5 (at Steren and Walmart) probably would have worked fine. Both the ILOX and the ASUS Wi-Fi work fine in the casita. I happened to have a 100-foot Ethernet cable, so my husband ran it to the casita. Now our friends down there can take advantage of Ethernet speeds on their laptops. My husband’s ancient computer on Wi-Fi (no VPN) gets speeds of about 45 Mbps. And that is about average for iPhones and my very old iPad. I keep the VPN turned on when using the iPad and videos play just fine. Something to remember, people, our devices and computers impact on our perception of “speed.” Yep, Kodi was buffering even with this unfettered speed. So, I looked up how to clear the cache and it is better. My computer is from 2014 so it needs for me to sit down and work on the congestion. But it is still MUCH, MUCH faster than before. No more Solitaire! And for you other Kodi users, Kodi needs to be maintained and updated regularly. Just do a search for monthly lists of working addons and proceed accordingly. I have learned a lot about Kodi and computers just so I can watch the English Premiere League replays. (You have to watch them right away and the online community highly recommends using a VPN.) We also still watch games and movies in SD (standard definition) as there is less buffering and our older eyes can’t tell the difference anyway.

  11. It the banks and credit card companies really wanted to fight fraud this isn't the best way to do it. If you have foreign bank accounts you know they use an app or a small code generator. Why not send out one of those and require that generated number as a signature. It would even work on online purchases to make sure it is the card holder. Most of the world uses chip cards requiring a pin. This algorithm based generator would give you a new pin with each use. If your law makers wanted to fight express kidnappings they would require banks to let you set up a HELP code to put in the ATM that would alert authorities and send the ATM photos to the police. If you are being forced to withdraw money under duress you could enter the HELP code first, then the actual code if forced to try it again. You should be able to set up online what balance (maybe $10) is shown when you enter the HELP code.

Here ya go: https://www.movilidadsinlimites.com/index.php And this is the specific product that you're looking for:https://www.movilidadsinlimites.com/salva_escaleras.php Barbi was very happy with this company (at least she was at the time ). These can be installed and uninstalled easily to move with you. I think it's important to deal with a company close by for easy servicing if necessary.

  19. The other side to this coin is that local Mexicans hate this as much as gringos. One of my Mexican friends hired some guys to trim trees. He even paid ahead. When they did not show, he was pissed off. He said to me 'That is why we are a third world country'. The one that gets me is local businesses who don't return calls or emails when they stand to make a buck.

  21. Not at all to be argumentative but merely to help you find what you seemingly are looking for..... a doctor or facility in Houston that will accept your Part B Medicare coverages as does your California HMO insurance network of docs, clinics etc.... but you are using terms that are conflicting. For example, there is no such thing as a "Part B Network". Part B is a coverage spelled out by Medicare and a 'network' is a term used by insurance companies, usually HMOs, to spell out who you may or may not use to acquire these Part B coverages in their area. You are probably looking because your California HMO has no network that reaches out of state and thus into Houston where it appears that you would like to have 'service'. Since you have an HMO you probably have a Medicare Advantage insurance policy there, since as far as I know no Original Medicare Medigap insurance companies operate as an HMO. So unless I'm missing something what you probably need in Houston, with you living in Ajijic is: An insurance company that will sell you an Original Medicare Medigap policy AND a doctor/facilitiy who will accept that insurance to cover your Part B needs (as well as any Part A needs like a hospital). Assuming that your California HMO is actually a Medicare Advantage policy, you would have to cancel that policy... as one cannot have two coverages... and purchase a Gap policy usable in Houston. Then find a doc that is accepting new Medicare patients. FYI, the Cigna Healthspring policy mentioned above by 'chief' is a Medicare Advantage policy. He lives in Texas and thus is eligible. You living in Ajijic may not be able to acquire a Medicare Advantage policy as they require one to live and get service in a very specific locale.

  22. Florida Dude...I live in Ajijic and have Medicare Part B via a California HMO. I think we all know that Medicare B service is available only in the US by US providers. I’m simply looking for a reference to a part B network in Houston.

  24. Ate lunch there the other day and we were incredibly disappointed. Apparently they were out of the good "juicy" burgers because ours we're the all-too-familiar dry, tasteless, mystery meat burgers we've grown to expect in most places. Also the typical plastic cheese on top. The salads were a pile of overchopped lettuce with brown around all the edges. Why waste time on a restaurant like that?

  25. The only place that I have found canned fruit that is not in syrup is at SuperLake and it ain't cheap. I like to have a couple of cans of Dole Pineapple in it's own juice with no added sugar added on hand just in case there's no fresh pineapple ready to eat. The amount of sugar and unhealthily sugared foods and beverages available for sale here is mind boggling... in the land of diabetics. It's heartbreaking.

  29. If you are a diabetic it is recommended you keep a regular coke or orange juice in your refrigerator. If your blood sugar gets to low which is a dangerous condition, drinking orange juice will soon raise the sugar level to an acceptable level. It acts like a shot of sugar.
