  1. For the poster who's opinion on Chapala/Ajijic is based on the comments of tired old musicians, who only see the night time here, and are lucky to see 200 pesos for a nights work here. For the poster who thinks he would not be accepted here because he is "bi-racial". Firstly people are very accepting here - bi-racial, bi-sexual, bi-polar, bi-cultural, bi-pedal whatever you've got. Secondly, "gringos" are definitely the minority here, I would say 10%, even in what they call the "high" season here (which I have never understood, lots of chilly, cloudy, days and nights). Yes, many of them are retired, or semi-retired, and they evolve into a completely different mindset - from a world where time is money, to a world where time is just time. Much of Mexico is stuck in the second category, which is one reason it is so fascinating. There is a sort of feeling of rebellion here, that they doing something different than hanging around the U.S.A. and Canada retirement hotspots, bragging about their family's various accomplishments. I have noticed this among the Tapatios too, dragging their patrons and mama grandes out here for a happy family weekend. And the common thread here, from everyone who falls in love with Lakeside, is nature. The hillside residential areas are spectacularly beautiful right now, birds, flowers, trees, all an explosion of color. The breezes are clean, full of oxygen. All you want to do is to take a deep breath of fresh air and then flop into the swimming pool. Bliss. The grand lake, the gorgeous sunrises. This place just beams with life, and it seems to seep deep into your soul. Unfortunately, like all states of mind, or "scenes" - they are very fragile. Things can change radically within one generation. We are seeing already with the profusion of giant, multi-story condo developments, each buyer choosing to be encased in sterile, glass living spaces. Nature is something to be viewed from afar.

  2. Carry on in Mexico, you are dreaming. I have a police commandante friend who was finally allowed carry on his off duty because he was being threatened and chased on occasion. Want to carry,go to some of the states in the USA for that pleasure. Shoot somebody here, be prepared to go to jail and more than likely never get out alive. I recommend that you stop reading that Facebook Chapala Crime Group for your mental well being.

  3. Welcome back, you amazingly self-aggrandizing, insulting person. It was one of your own posts some weeks back that precipitated someone posting a link to the actual law, which you apparently still feel free to "interpret". And thanks for telling us, yet again, to "get over it", something you are clearly incapable of doing yourself.

  4. Won't get any help with your gun question on this liberal web board buddy , Go to Facebook and join us on Gringos Ajijic & Lakeside Conservatives . Plenty of NRA members and gun owners on there that can help with your questions . We are the minority here , but none the less , we are here .Good luck brother !

  5. No matter what subject comes up you can always count on some to bring up their warped sense of politics. Are you on some political party payroll. Do you feel compelled to espouse your point of view? We are not supposed to be talking of politics here.

  6. A few weeks ago I had a mammogram, 3D Diagnostic Mammogram and Breast Ultrasound in Guadalajara for $1,150 pesos. My Dra. Iliana Ramos, Quality Care sent me to Diagnosticos por Imagen on Av. Ninos Heroes. With my GPS we zipped in and out of Guadalajara. I have a lot of confidence in Dra. Iliana Ramos.

  7. Owning a firearm is completely legal as long as you are a "Mexican Resident". A LTC is also available by may be difficult and almost impossible to get. Buying a firearm is surprisingly easy. You do not need any paperwork or license to buy, but you do have to register it once you do buy. And you can buy from anyone. No need to go to DF for one. Visit https://www.mexicoarmado.com/index.php . It is a forum where you can buy and sell firearms in Mexico. You can also find all your answers for licensing and registration. Good luck. Ignore the sarcasm and ignorance that you will encounter. A mature and responsible gun owner knows the rules, the laws, and the circumstances when to use and not use a firearm. Educate yourself and know the laws about gun ownership and you will not have any problems.

  8. You really think by trying to use that old bilge-water " you can't have your own facts" on us is going to do you any good? Oh, my.

  9. Spoken like a true Texas Republican. I don't think that folks are 'surprised' but rather trying to be alert to their circumstances should they need to cross the border into the US any time soon.

  10. You can get a mammogram at the xray place across from Quality Care and Quality Care does the ultrasounds. Approx 1200 pesos for both.

  11. I do not like that suspended ceiling look. It reminds me of cheap, 1980's office space, "cubicle farms" I have helped many heritage building owners in Vancouver to replace them and repair the plaster. Once the ceilings were opened up and repaired, the owners were estatic, and were able to rent the space as premium.

  12. If you have the time to wait just a little for an appointment, and have some Spanish, there are several Salud Digna locations in Guad and the cost will be MUCH less than anywhere else. Perfectly good equipment and discounts if you are over 60 (65??) and same-day results.

  14. I think he is very relaxed and enjoying. Many others on here not so much. And what's with a bunch of you always using that word[paradise] cavalierly. there is no such thing except a TV show with a guy surrounded by a whole bunch of babes who pretend they want to marry him.

  15. Those are really cool ideas, and, if the space was smaller, would definitely be contenders. However, husband doesn't want that artsy of a ceiling. I think I will stick to the panel or beadboard look. I will definitely post before and after picks, but it will probably be after the rainy season. I have one or two trips planned to the US and then I will get a hands-on look at the panels so I can decide. Thanks so much for understanding my position and for the suggestions.

  19. A friend and I did a suspended ceiling in her house many years ago to hide the ugly ceiling above. But she didn't want that white retro look, so she bought some inexpensive, but nice patterned fabric and we stapled around the edge and onto the back of the ceiling tiles before dropping them in. It looked really good.

  21. That's a remarkably long-winded way to restate what several others already have, ad nauseam: "Flout the law if you want to".

  22. You have the right to eat or not eat at any establishment you want. If they don't allow dogs then don't bring yours. The owners have the right to decide if they want to allow pets or not. Mexican law seems to be interpreted by each establishment as they see fit. The dogs are innocent in this conversation. My question would be are you really that dependent on your dog that you have to drag it everywhere you go? If it is a service dog that is another matter, but most of these dogs are just pampered pouches. Some bark at the other dogs and some bark at customers and staff. That dog should be left at home. Other people do not necessarily think that your pup is the cutest thing they have ever seen. They don't want your pup under their chair while they eat and they don't want to have to be careful not to trip over your leash when coming or going. If your dog can sit quietly and is well behaved, has been in the house all day by itself, and is allowed to go where you are eating, then take it. If you have been dragging it around town all day, take it home and let it rest. I choose to eat anywhere I want even if there are dogs there. I don't care for it if a pet is misbehaving, as it makes dining a less enjoyable experience, but I will not boycott the restaurant just because the owner made a choice I did not agree with. If you don't want to eat there then don't, but don't go on the web board and bash a poor little mom and pop restaurant that could easily lose business because you disagree with or maybe misunderstood their policy. These people work hard for us, their customers, and bashing them here is not something we should do over a dog policy. And yes I have 2 dogs and no I do not take them with me. Ever. My choice.

  24. You can easily see entitled attitudes when quoting the law, they usually say something like, "What does the law exactly mean in Mexico." A lot like the sound of one hand clapping. What about Hillary?

  25. The latter sentence is debatable. I didn't offer my opinion on the "entitled" ones.😎 Takes too long.

  28. In 2002, El Torito used to have its bolillos in an uncovered basket, on a shelf close to the floor. I shopped at El Torito on a regular basis and bought my buns there. One day, someone brought their dog to the store. The dog lifted its leg and p**d on the bolillos. I do not shop at that store any longer.

  29. Slainte29 wrote "Why not take them (dogs) to movie theaters, churches, grocery stores, schools from kinder to university, and a lot of other places that are public venues. Just allow dogs anyplace and anywhere." You wont believe it Slainte, but dogs are allowed on one side of the church at the little Chapel By The Lake, here along the shores of Lake Chapala. First only service dogs were allowed, Now any dog. So far no problem. It will be interesting to see what happens if they all start to bark. at once. There are usually one to three dogs at any Sunday service, and so far never one bark.

  30. Wouldn´t the area where you are dining, be an area where food is received? Most back bars are in plain sight of the dining area and not in some obscure location on the premises. Why not take them (dogs) to movie theaters, churches, grocery stores, schools from kinder to university, and a lot of other places that are public venues. Just allow dogs anyplace and anywhere. Get real Rony and leave your dog at home or with a sitter along with other personal items from your home, you wouldn´t take to these places. Show a little consideration for other people who don´t want to dine with dogs. Go home and eat with your dog.

  31. I did not "interpret" the law...it is quite clear. You are free to state your opinions, but the facts are the facts, and no matter how hard you, and others, try to change them, as i say "Get over It!"

  32. That is a pretty snotty attitude and does not address the OPs post at all.

  33. I left a post earlier here but have ignored this thread since, for all the usual reasons...stupidity, ignorance and those who think they know all the answers. This poster (Ian) has all the facts, as did I in my post. Most here obviously do not know what they are talking about (except Rony and a few others). Here Ian outlines the law...the service area is NOT the dining area. The law is clear.. it says dogs are not allowed in the SERVICE areas. If it was as many here would like, would it not say "dogs are not allowed in restaurants"...period, full stop, punto? I have no dog in this fight (pun intended) but those "citing the law" do not know what they are talking about. Just make a list of the restaurants you like that do not allow dogs and avoid the rest. Simple...please, this is no big deal...5 pages of mostly nonsense...get over it!
