  1. I have been living here for almost 10 years now and have never been short-changed by any of the cashiers at Walmart. I find that if you treat the cashiers and baggers with respect and are friendly with them, you will not have any problems. I think the problem related to the above comments is that you people come down here and expect to be cheated by Mexicans. That is not the proper attitude. Try smiling and saying hello to them when they are checking you out and I am sure you will see a difference.

  2. I am going to adopt a wait and see attitude. Nothing has been mentioned about the fact that if an employee has Seguro Popular then they are not eligible for the medical portion of IMSS. There are a lot of things that have to be worked out regarding this concept... and no point jumping to any incorrect assumptions.

  4. Personally, I am grateful to them for what they showed me... More Liana, if you want, ''in depth'' you might have to look elsewhere? You don't have watch... but why spoil the show for others who are less choosy in their fare?

  5. When you get Mexico's version of US Medicaid, you get what you pay (or not) for.

  6. Yes, in theory it is a great idea. The reality is that the market will pay what the market will bear, and I think that this will put a large number of domestic workers at risk for having their hours cut, because many employers will simply reduce the workers' hours by 1/3, or they will understate the hours worked by the employee to make only a minimum contribution. If this program continues as-is, I think there will be many more Spring Clean type agencies popping up. I know, having interviewed Spring Clean (and been impressed by them) that the workers are paid LESS than what I pay my self-em

  7. No, I said that I believe a lot of folks will be out of work because the employers won't want to get involved in all of the paperwork. This is Mexico and Mexicans are entitled to make and follow their own laws; I just don't want to have to hire a bookkeeper, etc. I believe in following the laws of the country I live in, so I'll adjust just fine. As Ferret said, we'll let this play out to see what happens before reacting. It's not a drama and I sincerely doubt that we're going to be seeing the moving trucks anytime soon. Kimanjome had it right.

  8. Live Music is always a tight rope for a restaurant. I don't want to hijack this post but we were at one of our favorite restaurants last night that offers live music on Saturdays. The owner noticed a lot of his guest were requesting tables seated "as far from the band as possible". He got it and this week when we went I noticed the band was playing soft romantic music that made it pleasant and easy to talk and then later in the evening moved into more dance-able songs. I was impressed. BTW LOVE Purple Garlic Bro....what a great addition to lakeside food scene

  9. Same thing happened to us 4 months ago (had misplaced top portion of form) we filled out a new form on our flight into GDL. Handed the new form to the IMN with our RP cards, he promptly stamped the new form and threw the other half in the garbage and we were on our way..Your friend got the guy with an attitude that day..Filled out new forms when we left and they were accepted promptly for our flight out..We keep several extra forms for just such an occurrence..The INM office in Chapala does not have any of the INM forms and will tell you that you have to go the the airport to obtain them..So

  11. No one from the government was there. Per the presenters, the new mayor cancelled 2 meetings and has not re-scheduled, nor has he come out and stated publicly that he will stop this. My unofficial count of attendees was at least 150. Some stragglers and people seated on plaza benches may bring that number up. The were no empty seats of those put out for the event. They need $$$ to fight this legally and handed out their Bancomer account for donations. I will let those in charge put the number/name of account here if they decide to do that. I wish they had a PayPal account to

  14. If one drives ‘throughout’ Mexico, one sees the same thing. It is less of a brain thing and more of a systemic problem. Most NOB road engineers know that the ‘secret’ to a good road is a good base. This secret is not know SOB, or better said it probably is known but has not found its way to actual implementation. Until the Mexican public demands it, this will not change.... in our lifetime anyway.

  17. Thanks for the link. My quibbles are: no way to know who they were or why they were there. The husband called the now-former president, "Nieto", and neither of them had ANY CLUE about what they were seeing. "This is a room." Innocents abroad, IMHO. They checked it off their list of stuff to do in Mexico. No insight at all, shallow and meaningless. YMMV.

  19. “And, if this man had symptoms still, how could his EKG be "normal"?“ Because his problem was not heart related. “Maybe it depends on how well the patient's b.s. meter is working.“ Yes. That is why not every patient is a target. Sadly, it is the most vulnerable who get taken. But, these doctors are sociopaths and it sometimes takes a finely calibrated BS meter to detect one. When people are ill, depressed, afraid their meters may not be working well or at all. Of course, dishonest doctors are found in every country. We just happened to be talking about here because h

  20. The doubling of the minimum wage will cause prices on nearly everything to sky rocket as well. Then the peso will crash and people will really suffer. Every thing in the country has a labor component and some of that is probably minimum wage there is no way it won't show up in the price of the goods or services.

  21. It's being reported 63 percent of immigrant households there are collecting welfare. Where do we sign up? Unfortunately, when it comes to immigration, Mexico has a much better system and attitude (Mexico and Mexicans first) than the U.S. What I find interesting are the people who live in this country that definitely follows a policy of placing itself and its citizens first react with hostility and hatred when anyone or any duly elected politician there suggests that the U.S. do the same. Go figure.

  22. Fair enough. I'm sure the USA will reciprocate with financial requirements for Mexican nationals living in the USA. They should also charge an import bond of $400 per Mexico manufactured auto sent into the US and refund it when they come back south. I think all laws and tariffs should be reciprocal.

  23. I do not know about the expat situation, I did not think about it..but the program is huge and ambitious based on the idea that corruption will go away so money will come in.. good luck on that one.. It may improve but I doubt that several hundreds of years , maybe thousands of years of corruption ,will be erased in 6 years. .I did not catch any insinuations or details on the expat population , I do not think it is on the radar yet but when he will need money who knows.. They could continue their policies of no discrimination on religion nationality etc but I would think that the

  24. I work with indigenous communities and am in contact with 350 people , I can tell you that many are signed up with SS or actually IMSS, the number s on their house hand painted but when something serious happen they pool their money to go to a private doctors when they can because the service and attention is way better. AMLO last night made it clear that the indigenous have priority and then the poor so do not expect a whole lot more services and improvement f you own a house or have a pension.. He is talking about giving 1260 pesos a month to the elderly to help them.. so I doubt that any of

  25. The fact is the 20 million choose not to join the Seguro Popular. They live in their own mountain subsistance indigenous World and don't want to be forced into being a statistic for AMLO or any other politican. They want to be left alone. Many Secretaria de Salud studies document this.

  26. Amazing how you/the mx government causuly talk about including 20 million more people into the system....So have you seen the proposed plan??? Other more developed countries like Canada or Britain with national health care systems are collapsing under the increase of a huge bubble of senior's and a fraction of other"non qualified "people seeker assitance So maybe Mexico has some magic bullet or formula??

  27. AMLO was quoted by someone on here as saying that the program would be focusing on rural and poor people access above all others first. Can't find it, but it was to go into effect as of December 1st. That's all I know, but I'm duly worried about it. Can't qualify for anything else. Because my Spanish and my hearing are both poor, I hired Luzma Grande, the faciltator, to go with me to the Chapala SP office to apply. I got a three year policy with no problems. She took care of drivers license renewal last month as well. Great service.

  28. I cancelled my IMSS as I had it for 8 years and never used it and joined Seguro Popular. Applying for SP varies a lot from place to place-it is all a bit vague depending on who you talk to. That makes you wonder. Who knows how good either are-there are horror stories for both and both may change drastically soon. Best if you can prepare to self fund any health problems.
