  2. So if someone saves every stray or mistreated dog they come across, and picks up garbage, they are excused from assaulting another human?

  3. Sadly, posts that are hi-jacked are the primary reason that many, many of the longer term Lakeside residents have given up on this web-site. We understand that it would be impossible for the moderator to successfully oversee the proofing of responses to ensure that people remain on topic. Sadly, a significant number of people, like ourselves, very seldom, if ever, respond to posts, for exactly the same reason because we simply don't want to sift through useless drivel that has zero to do with the original post. Nor to we post very often "unless" we think we have something that might be of

  4. Can someone tell me his age and preferably his date of birth? Maybe I should give you a little more info as to why I'm asking for the his age. I am a member of the Lake Chapala Shrine Club and our International Shriners Hospitals for Children treat children up to the age of 18 for Orthopaedic, Burn Care, Spinal Cord Injury and Cleft Lip and Palate treatment, regardless of their ability to pay. Our Mexico City Hospital may be able to help. See Shriners Hospitals for Children - Orthopaedics

  5. Yes, he is 17 and a representative of the Shriners has visited Alehandro (we call him Alex) at the hospital and he is going to be fitted with an excellent prosthetic leg. We will now be able to help with new teeth. Thanks to the Shriners for their caring, assistance and love for children. Donated items for sale can be dropped off anytime at The Penthouse, Avenida del Pilar #54 in Riberas behind Mirasol. Someone will answer the doorbell and receive your items with much thanks and appreciation.

  6. "What evil lurks in heart's and mind's of men? The shadow knows!". I grew up with my Mom saying this about everything we couldn't figure out except she said The SHADOW do! as chills ran up and down my spine 😱😊 Moderator,. Isn't it time to shut this conversation down before these people insight more negative things? It seems that some people don't understand that other people's problems manifest in different ways. If this woman continuously exhibits all the behaviors that have been listed here and is evidenced on her Facebook page she could be in the early stages of some kind of dement

  9. How complacent many of us are. Judging without all the facts, not knowing how aggressive the caretaker was, not knowing if she is, in fact, in the early stages of a type of dementia or a depressive state that makes you act differently than you normally would. This board is so quick to judge others and demean them, many times being nasty with a sense of righteousness. Very sad state of affairs.

  10. Huh. I guess I missed all the posts from the people who have experienced or witnessed “quite another side” of the gardener’s behavior. You know the behavior sweet Ellie described to malign him when trying to justify her unjustifiable actions, the ones she has never apologized for or even come close to acknowledging were wrong.

  12. I have know this woman since I moved here and her efforts for the community towards animals and picking up garbage has blown me away. I’m proud to call her a friend. She admitted she did what she is accused of. The man has taken no responsibility for his long term harassment. Also, I have had problems with the man in question too. The first and only time I went, he first pretended to not speak English then got in my face clearly speaking English. So, I totally believe that he was the initial aggressor. He was so ugly to me I never returned. Yes, he is in his 70’s but he has no problem ha

  13. Our young hardworking Assistant Gardener was hit by a drunk driver. He's in the hospital with severe injuries. He is suffering with a broken jaw, lost teeth and has had one leg amputated from below the knee. He comes from a good hardworking family, but medical costs are mounting and we, the residents of The Penthouse, are hoping to help. We would like for him to have a good prosthetic leg so he can return to work when he has fully mended. We miss him. We are planning to have a Bazar and bake sale or open café on Saturday, September 22. I am clearing my home of decorator items, kitch

  14. Wow. I'm impressed. You've just written all the new rules. Congrats. I hope they offer you the job. But look: You made a post. You didn't ask a question. You made a statement. It was already a well-known fact to those on here. If you didn't want any responses, you could have mentioned that. Chat board threads wander, always have, and that is one of the attractions. And by continuing to be so damned judgmental, you have now hijacked your own post twice. However, I'm glad you are able to tell us about all the people "like ourselves" and why they don't post. 15. We stayed there twice. Their grounds and the location is perfect. They cater to well to do Guadalajara people and are not entirely Gringo friendly. But that is about it. Their rooms (few years back) and the food was not so great. Although we go there occasionally for Bohemia Obscura, Nachos or club sandwich . It is pleasant place on the lake to sit and people watch on Sunday afternoon. I personally would stayed in Posada Nueva. It is much more charming and welcoming.

  22. You don't have to figure out which side to take. The woman admits to assault in her statement. She threw a bag of dog crap at a person and it hit him. No one has the right to do that. Assault is a crime regardless of whether the assailant is otherwise a saint. The lame excuse that she was frustrated and 'lost it' is absurd. That is how most assaults occur; someone gets mad, doesn't control their impulses and assaults someone. It is up to the caretaker to decide whether to pursue this assault with the MP. I hope he does. 23. Taaffe, this woman doesn't look much younger than the gardener. She also comes with many good comments from her friends. The trash she threw around in her anger was trash she had already picked up. She did not run home and get her trash and bring it and throw it around. Since you nor anyone else, including me, that is commenting about this incident were there it might be a good idea to quit fanning these particular flames. Fighting fire with fire has never worked and there are always 2 sides of a story. The woman admitted to throwing HER dog's feces that she had picked up in her doggy ba

  24. Purchased an empty house. I am familiar with most of the resale shops and a few stores in Guadalajara, so I am looking a bit everywhere. Also know about Julie & Wayne's sales. If anyone has anything for sale, please pm me. This is what we need: Bedroom Furniture (chest, Armoire, end tables of sorts) Everything does not need to match. Dining Furniture -- If you only have chairs, no problem as long as comfortable. Coffee Table - Round or Triangular. Comfortable set of occasional chairs with a somewhat higher back. We are looking for simple lines as the home i

  25. Thank you Spencer. How can I get in touch with SANE, as I never heard of it, and thought i combed the area well. What I don't understand is the ins and outs of it. Do they have to pay the gov. to be registered? What do they have to report? Taxes, rosters of teachers/ students? I just want to understand the cost and time comsuming aspect to settle my mind. I have been in so many situations over the years where they see a Native speaker with my credentials and they want me in tomorrow, promising the propers and delivering nothing. In this political climate, I wonder if they realize how dire that

I understand I am eligible for Seguro Popular, and intend to apply as soon as I arrive in November. I have OHIP in Ontario, but no additional health insurance that covers me out of province. I would like to look into additional insurance covering my time in Mexico each year, but do not need a 12 month annual policy. I have hypertension (under good control with medication for over 25 years) and take a blood thinner prophylactically as I had a clot in my leg le

  37. If you like your cheddar packaged in a smaller size, may I suggest the NAVARRO cheddar in Walmart (in the upright coolers between the boxed milk and the bakery)? Preferably the ANEJO (aged). This is a good, white sharp cheddar that is made in Mexico. It is now my favourite cheddar... reasonably priced, correctly sized for a one person household and TASTES GOOD!

  39. Pancho told me a couple weeks ago they would open last week of Sept. Now I see a sign on the current store for early Oct. There will be a grocery, deli and restaurant operated by Ismat from Gossips. Speaking of the earlier referenced La Casita Deli in Guadalajara, was there this past Friday. Amazing store. Tillamook cheese finally! 594 Ave Terranova, north of Ave Mexico and west of Lopez Mateo Norte. Be forwarned, there are no prices posted for stuff. They are generally cheaper than what SuperLake USED to charge when Pancho was running it and certainly cheaper than currently being run.

  41. I agree with Bisbee Gal and Xena, and would add that common decency does not have an age limit. If you read my original post and follow up posts, I have said that the only thing the man wants is that she NEVER return to the field. If she does she will knowlingly face the consequences. Blaming the gardener, me or the other posters for her outrageous behavior is adding insult to injury.

  42. And, you never will. She does not do apologies. I have seen this woman in action at another off-leash area. She did not watch her dogs nor did she pick up after them. I saw her in a screaming match with another dog owner. It was so nasty and unpleasant. I totally believe the gardener’s version of what happened.

  45. I agree about doing all we can to reduce plastic, but the garafon bottles just get changed out for a new one, they don't get thrown away until they are old and cracked. Your old filters and UV bulbs are garbage, too. I priced out the under sink filters- the least expensive was thousands of pesos, plus it wouldn't fit under my sink anyway. I go through a garafon a week @ 26 pesos. Do the math.
    1 point
  46. Instead of buying bottled water and thus putting more plastic into our already polluted world, why not have either an under-the-sink filtration system installed or a whole-house filtration system. The latter means you are also filtering the water you shower with. I have a whole-house system as it was here when I bought the house. It costs 800 pesos for a carbon and sediment filter every six months, and 900 pesos once a year for the UV bulb. Don't know what the filter costs for the under-the-sink system.

  47. Stick with buying only garafons that you know have been bottled by the majors (ie. PepsiCo or Coca-Cola). These are brands such as Santorini, Ciel, etc. Don't buy from local "mom & pop" bottlers because you have no idea where they get the water and what refining processes they use or even if they have any safety & ongoing testing quality control.
