  2. Portimom - I deliberately started a new thread because the old one had degenerated into a whole bunch of different topics and discussions.

  4. C'mon. I know you didn't make that smoker. You're just trying to make the rest of us look bad. Right? Please.

  5. I have elaborated to you in a p.m. but truly there is nothing amazing in my statement that companies in the health insurance field here are not making money. I can see the day coming when we will not have private insurance available to us on the grounds of cost.

  6. Oh yeah - join IMSS and like some folks, be denied coverage / care after having paid into the system for years. Bontekoe, I suggest you read some of the old threads on problems with IMSS, especially Lakeside. If you must join a public health program, at the least you could suggest Seguro Popular. And, please don't hijack the thread that I started about WEA coverage levels in the new Boomers group policies.

  7. 11:30 may not be the dinner hour for retired gringos but it sure is for Mexicans. The very act that they have a liscence to operate and have for years, along with other business, I would say makes it a mixed use neighborhood. Don't like it, take it up with Public Works. Not the people with legally operating business. My guess is that the people who are all upset about this, like yourself, arean't their clients anyway to your threats of a boycot are pretty grim. Not to mention this ACTUALY is a threat. I wonder why you moved to a Mexican village with cuetes, bands, barking dog

  8. The only problem is that the premiums may become ridiculous unless you're over the top wealthy.

  9. Everyone has their favorite route and will argue with anyone that disagrees. Check the volumes of prior posts on this subject. From Texas there are really only 3 choices, 2 from Laredo and one from Pharr/McAllen at Reynosa. From Laredo you need to go by Monterrey and make a decision at Saltillo for the remainder. As stated you can get on 57 through Matehuala to SLP and then to Lagos de Moreno. You can also continue west around Saltillo and then take the new westside cuota connecting with 54, bypassing Zacatecas by taking 45D through Aguascalientes. If you want to stop in Mexico you r

  10. The San Jose riot specifically was a "rent-a-mob" thing, half of them were thinking they'd get paid, and you know what the other half were thinking, that the US is going to throw open the borders and let them live fat dumb and happy on other people's money, such is the promise of socialism and the delusion of those who follow it. As has been said many times, the only problem with socialism is that at some point you run out of other people's money. Running around waving the MXN flag isn't a good idea NOB, it probably hurts their cause more than it helps.

  11. Often difficult for a wife to become a PR based on husband first qualifying and once in Mexico wife is sponsored by husband. The issue is often wife's name of passport is not identical to name on marriage license. One letter difference and usually means application declined. Usually, easier in this situation for wife to qualify and later sponsor husband whose name is likely the same on both documents. Also, trying to become a PR after say 2 years as a TR is also not so easy as only pension sourced income will be considered; no home ownership; no investments; no other income sources.

  12. I visited Lagos de Moreno mant years ago in the '70s. We were camping across Mexico. Lot of bromeliads growing in the trees. Pine forests... a beautiful lake. The sky turned rosy pink at nigh... it was spring and they were burning off the fields. Lots of Natures wonders to marvel at... enjoy.

  13. I've never visited there either but surely it has to be worth a day trip and/or a weekend. I've always been curious about it, too. I think the Chamber of Commerce types call it the "Athens of Mexico". Ha! Hope you report back. Regardless, have fun!

  14. I have had such good service, above and beyond, from Jesus Tejeda on claims on house, health, and car that I would never switch. Major theft, back surgery, and serious car accident. He's my go to guy for insurance or if there's a problem.

  17. My husband has his health insurance through Bellon, but due to a pre-existing condition (lung cancer) I could not get a policy with any of the companies he represents. I am grateful to Boomers / Blue Angel who first got me coverage with Best Doctors, with an exclusion for lung cancer; and then (after 5 years of totally clean CAT scans), got me onto the WEA policy with no exclusions. I'm not at all happy about the increase in WEA premiums and deductible - I used to consider it a major medial coverage but now with those increased deductibles, it seems like catastrophic coverage only. 21. Of what possible benefit is it to anyone to mention suicide in a thread on the tragic death of a community member? Why would anyone even bring it up? People who knew, loved, are related to this man are suffering and in shock. Would you go to their homes and say to them, "You might want to consider he committed suicide. Sure he seemed happy but he could have been hiding his agony from you and you missed how much he was suffering"? BTW, speculation by any other name is still speculation. You can call it "just something to be considered" but you are publically speculating on the cause of dea

  22. Just curious, why would you want to wave your American flag at a parade in Mexico?? I don't care much for Mexicans protesting in the US waving their flag,I would care even less for gringos or other extranjeros waving their flags here. As a matter of fact I don't care much for flag wavers anywhere.
