I was surprised to see that members could not ask questions at a board meeting - unless the question was given - in writing - to the president - 24 hours in advance. Hopefully he is easily always available in the LCS office to just hand over the question And my recall is that the meeting agenda does not have a requirement to be published 24 hours in advance - before the cutoff for questions in writing. ? I have not attended a lot of non profit board meetings - but a few - and questions from attendees were always welcome. Is discouraging questions with a pre-approval required a normal practice for a community non profit - ? Also what about publishing an agenda? Ok for it not to be published 24 hours etc in advance of meeting from the LCS Website - Any LCS member may attend a Board meeting as an observer, except for closed sessions. Any member may speak — provided a request has been made to the President in writing, stating the subject and purpose, not less than 24 hours prior to the Board meeting.

I agree! Over the last year or so LCS seems to have forgotten its mission of community outreach. Apart from the programs at the Wilkes Center and student aid and the kid's art program it seems to have reverted to a social club and concert venue for gringos. To be honest these three outreach programs have been in place for decades so they probably have not had the chance to mess with them. Yet.

What's going on at LCS? These things have all happened recently: The resignation of a progressive and well liked Executive Director. The resignation of the Treasurer. The failure to find an external auditor after over a year of searching. If a deadline had not been forced on them at the recent AGM they may still be looking a year from now. The weird 6 month extension to the President's term for reasons that seem flimsy at best. The recent board meeting demonstrating a lack of interest in members and volunteers issues that was reported in the newspaper. The AGM that was held in March where members concerns were ignored and was basically just a one-man ego show. It looks like LCS has been declining over the last one to two years. Is this the beginning of the end?
