  1. Today
  2. I know I would want to make sure I had absolutely everything in order with MX BEFORE I gave up other country citizenship.
  3. Me too! Also..... I know energy-saving light bulbs contain something that should not go into regular trash, and I a whole bunch saved but no idea what to do with them.
  4. For years the lighting store in San Antonio accepted ou batteries for disposal ..policy changed when they moved…we managed to find other options but finally we’ve hit the brick wall….any suggestions?
  5. Don't think one needs to consult (=pay) an attorney to know if they hold citizenship and passport in Mexico, or any other country. .
  6. You heard wrong. The process involves legal procedures, including an interview at a US Embassy or Consulate and payment of a fee $2,350. (non refundable) Being tax compliant for 5 year is a prerequisite for renouncing citizenship. An exit tax may apply to those renouncing their citizenship, depending on their net worth and tax status.
  7. 16 April 2024 Visa rate 16. 536516 Mastercard rate 16.xxx (Present day's rate is available at 3:05 PM EST)
  8. Last I heard it was over $4000.00 for renunciation. I listen to Nomad capitalist on YouTube there is a ton of information. Andrew's dad lives in Ajijic.
  9. I remember Manix was my first resturant I ate at in the mid 90s in Ajijic.. I was backpacking around Mexico and had the Fromers travel guide. ( no internet). I stayed in the hotel on the plaza ( 9 dollars a night. I was told if a month or more 7 bucks a night.) and the guide recommended that resturant. My fillet the one they served up till they closed was less than 3 dollars including a couple of beers.
  10. Does anyone have current information for a groomer that will come to our home and cut toenails of an elderly dog?
  11. FYI The thread regarding Manix being closed is in La Cocina, not this forum. It includes the recent information from GDL Reporter about the new location. How about a compromise? Put your original post in La Cocina also. Here's proof: Manix restaurant closing end of year By ibarra June 16, 2023 in La Cocina
  12. There are several good dentists at Lakeside, but Dr Haro and Dr Barragan are a step above good.. They are the best. And if you can afford the best go for it,
  13. There was another heading currently active about Manix being "Closed" . Since that was in this forum , I put the opening info in this forum. There are two handicap access points. One is a separate entrance, with ramp, giving access to the main floor. The other gives access to the terrace. Hector has tried to think of everything. And yes he and his family have supported the Ajijic community for 37 years and he now deserves the community's support.
  14. No, if not here, it would belong in lakeside restaurants index. But I for one am happy to see it promoted here, Hector and Manix deserve the attention for all he has done and continues to do for the community both personally and professionally.
  15. Yesterday
  16. I have been using Doctor Rocio for years ever since she arrived in Ajijic And very happy with her work..
  17. There are alot of different levels in that building and no ramps...
  18. Again, that's why I suggested he speak with a MX attorney.
  19. Sorry but as a permanente i would think You have a problem if all of a sudden You have no nationality.
  20. The op needs local information also. Is he naturalized inMX? Is he Permanente? If yes, no problem. If temporal, he may be relying on income from U.S. to meet financial requirements.
  21. The reason I posted information for Alvaro Becerra was to make sure he DOES have citizenship in MX. Jim R must have citizenship somewhere before giving it up somewhere else. Since Jim R is posting on this forum I imagine he has or should have citizenship here. https://1040abroad.com/faq/renouncing-u-s-citizenship/ "In order to renounce your U.S. citizenship, you need to have a second passport (citizenship of another country). You will be required to bring this with you to the renunciation appointment. The State Department will deny anyone the right to renounce their U.S. citizenship if they do not have a second passport."
  22. My info goes back to 2006, so I guess this rule, as well as many others worldwide, has changed. Would never do it anyway but......
  23. I ASSUME you are already a dual ( or more) citizen of one or more other countries. Before you make this leap, better check out the various current entry requirements to any country you may want to visit in the future. As an example, Canada recently changed this same for Mexicans entering Canada who prior, did not need a Visa. This happened overnight, causing a lot of trouble for some. As a dual ( Canadian--Mexican) it has long been the case that I leave and re-enter Mexico on Mexican PP, but if I dind't have a Canadian PP, I'd need a Visa to enter U.S...... which takes time, money, and a long lineup ahead.
  24. Sorry that is not true. One of the requirements to renounce Canadian citizenship is haveing a citizenship in another country. Info on govt website https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/canadian-citizenship/renounce-canadian-citizenship.html
  25. Alvaro can help him if he doesn't have MX citizenship.
