Child of the
Month
Jesus Vazquez García
By J. J. Vollmer
Jesus
Vazquez García is a shy, handsome five-year old who lives in
Santa Cruz where he is proud to be attending kindergarten. He is the
youngest of his mother, Marta´s, nine children, the oldest child
being 20. Two of his sisters are married. The older boys work as fishermen
and farmers, as does their father.
Jesus had difficulty walking due to a
congenital turned left foot. He has had X-rays and has been treated
at Hospital Civil and is now wearing corrective orthopedic shoes. He
needs pain medication. Jesus has also been treated for strabismus; however
a previous try with corrective lenses was not successful. He is currently
under-going preoperative tests and he will have surgery to correct the
eye problem in December.
Jesus is just one of the 102 children
who have been treated under our program during the first six months
of this year. Up through September the Programa pro Niños Incapacitados
del Lago has spent 212,000 pesos providing medical help to the children
in our area. The money pays not only for medicines and hospital services,
but also for wheelchairs and prostheses, and even for transportation
to and from therapy clinics and laboratories.
In order to fill the ever-growing need
of our children, the Programa pro Niños Incapacitados is looking
for more members, volunteers and donors to help our young neighbors
like Jesus.
If you would like to find out more about
our organization, we cordially invite you to our meeting the first Thursday
of every month at 10 a.m. in the bar area of the Nueva Posada in Ajijic.
It can be a heartwarming experience.
