Judy Franco and her esposo initiated their new home by having a bang-up party. Judy is president of the School For the Deaf. Speaking of the School for the Deaf, don’t forget them when you need wrapping paper or greeting cards.

Herb Hazen will speak on Tapas My 15th at the next Culinary meeting. . Tapas are Spanish appetizers, all of which have a base of garlic, olive oil, tomato and rosemary. They can include anything from the sea, (except old tires) meat or vegetables Mr. Hazen will also be giving a demonstration of bread making in his home on the 23rd of May, however it is limited to 12 people at fifty pesos a person. Hazen was written up in “Cooking Light” magazine using his custom made brick oven and sharing recipes.
Coming up….the Kentucky Derby run for the roses on May 6th, to benefit incapacitated children. Sandra and Henri Louridans are hosting For a nominal price of 80 pesos you can watch cream of the crop three year olds run in the first leg of the Triple Crown . On May 20th you can see another field of babies charge down the stretch at the Preakness. Doreen Craig will be hosting that race. On June 10th Hacienda Aldamo will host the Belmont the last of the big 3. If you attend all three races you can pony up with 200 pesos otherwise it’s 80 pesos per. On the back of each ticket you will find instructions on how to get to each destination. Not only that, but your entry fee lets you enjoy a great buffet. Each place will have a cash bar. Last year, Ninos Incapacitados helped one hundred and fifty handicapped children on their way to a normal life. Tickets can be obtained at the Chapala Society or you can purchase a ticket from a member.
Pat Stacey gave a party at La Luz for around 25 friends before departing for the north-eastern part of the Estados Unidos.
A group of people that had dinner at La Luz the other night said they missed the animal menagerie that used to be there. Such a beautiful spot to dine.
Changes at the Country Club. There is a new board of directors headed by President, Ron Lysell. In addition, the members approved lots of pesos to provide treated sewer water from San Nicolas to irrigate the greens, thus saving the potable water presently being used. Mexico’s Federal Water Authority (CAN) applauds the move. Also on the agenda is a new sewage treatment plant in co-operation with the Colonos of Vista Del Lago which will make more treated water available. A face lift for the kitchen at the country club is ongoing and should be finished by the 15th of the month New equipment will mean better efficiency, cleanliness and hygiene. While the process is going on, lunches will still be available to members and guests.
