At the tail-end of January the Bednars were gracious enough to open their gorgeous home for an LLT benefit and about 150 people were ushered up the hill to see this state of the art home. While one would want to be in total possession of all their faculties getting or leaving there, the view from the top is spectacular and well worth the drive for the owners and any invited guests.
Norma Jean Lyerly was also pressed into duty as a performer for “Bermuda Avenue Triangle“ when one of the leads became ill and had to leave the production.
As promised this was a very funny play. Next on the roster is “Arsenic and Old Lace“.
The Play Reading Committee has been perusing a variety of plays and then gathering faithfully to discuss possibilities for the next season. So many things have to be considered before a play is selected. A director has to agree to do the number and in our retirement community, casting can be difficult. While a director may have someone in mind to play a certain part because of such a short rehearsal time, someone unknown to the director who might better suit the part could be discovered during the auditions. Theater is a voracious mistress, so do come and tryout since NO play is pre-cast and you might be surprised to find you have just the quality a director is looking for.
If acting is not your bag, but you still like the smell of greasepaint, there are lots and lots of other avenues to investigate to be a welcome addition to the theater. Every play has to have a director, stage manager, makeup, lighting, props, an appropriate set and a myriad of other things to be a success. If these important behind the scenes positions go unfilled, there is no play. Like the little breakfast kid, Mikey (who made a mint) said, “Try it…you’ll like it!” No promises on making a mint, but do come out and give the theater a try.
“The Best of the Mimes” show at the Auditorio was a smash hit and all three performances were SRO. The audience almost fell out of their seats laughing when “Sonny” and “Cher” appeared. And Sara Lee products will never be looked at in the same way again. It was well cast, well directed, well paced, funny and many said they would go see it again. Shows to go you the majority of people in this town want to be entertained and leave a production with a light heart.
