I am thinking about taking the lakeside bus just to kill some time. Up one way and down the other just for fun. Any opinions? I'm usually focused on driving so I can't look as much as I would like, so I thought what the heck.

One thing i dislike about riding the buses is the curtains get in the way, I try to set up front in the first seat but the front windows have the sun film on them so low and it is hard to see through. Another thing is the buses run so fast it's hard to see anything. Your best bet is to ride something like a bike or a horse. It might take longer but you get to see a lot.

For ease and convenience, you can't beat the bus. It's especially good for first look-see at most any area. Gives you a chance to scout it out, and see if it's someplace that interests you. It's our main mode of transportation in México. Lizzy

We will be in the area February and will be taking the bus a lot. Could you please let me know how much the bus is, do you need the exact change and is the price dependent on how far you take the bus? Thanks for any and all info.

We took the bus to Guad when we first got here and it was good. We got out in the historical district and then took a cab to the bus station and came back.

The cost depends on where you want to go, and which bus you take. If you take the "smaller" buses that go through the village of Ajijic and SAT the cost is different than the "big" buses that only go along the carretera. You don't need exact change, but I would not give a 200 peso bill to go from Ajijic to SAT, that is usually 5.5 pesos, from SAT to Riberas is 5 pesos from SAT to Chapala is 5.5. The other costs I don't know because I don't go there. Some buses do have curtains, others don't, it is much nicer and easier than driving and you can see a lot more.

Sit on the aisle as close to the exit as possible. The bus can get very crowded and not always easy to get out when your stop comes up.

I drive now, but for 3 years I took the bus from Chapala to Jocotepec and everywhere in between. I always waited for the 'little' bus, even if a big bus came along first.
You get to see alot more from the bus, and if you're lucky? maybe even some 'live' entertainment.
Only advice other than above, is, if you're standing to 'HOLD ON TIGHT'. I've seen more than one gringa end up on the floor !!

I took the big bus from La Cristiana to Chapala and then back. It cost 9 pesos and they do give change if it is small. I gave them 10 pesos. It was nice. Yes I had to hold the curtain back to see but I got to see a lot of stuff I hadn't been able to find early when I was driving. I wish I had done it done it when I first got here, but that's life. I like to take local busses when I travel because they are cheaper and I don't like the tourist guide chatter. I get to interact with the locals and see things I probably wouldn't have.

I enjoy the bus. Like you say, sometimes you get live entertainment, like music on guitars.

you truly do need to take a bus. To anywhere. Just do it. Quickly. give us a day off from your interminable, nonsensical, self gratifying posts.
