Pancho of SuperLake stopped early this morning at the newly opened Krispy Kreme store in the upscale mall in Zapopan. He brought back several dozen for resale - they are on a table behind the checkouts. But hurry - there aren't many!

Krispy Kreme upscale? That's like saying the Beverly Hillbillies are members of the House of Lords.
First Wal-Mart,now Krispy Kreme. It's amazing the level of culture at Laekeside.

Shows your level of sophistication and culture as well. First, it's spelled Lakeside. Second, there was no mention that KK was upscale; just that it was located in the upscale shopping plaza. Maybe you should get out more and mingle with the people. KK is positioning itself in Mexico as a better (aka more upscale) doughnut maker than Dunkin' Donuts, which is coupled many times with Dolphy's Ice Cream.
Additionally, if you lived, worked, and associated with the local population you would find that Walmart is considered to be upscale merchandise. Granted, not Liverpool or F de F, but more upscale than the norm.

I would think that KKs would be a definite upgrade to the donuts available here. I don’t see how a donut would indicate culture one way or the other. The recipe for KKs was bought from a riverboat cook and the rest is donut history. I always thought they were the best I had ever tasted, even better than my sainted Moms.

Precisely. Now we'll move on to the health hazards of refined sugar and flour combined with fat. IMO much worse than cigarettes. A Fast food diet, high in the aforementioned ingredients, contributes to Alzheimers apparently.

Mntnmama - once upon a time - long ago - when my kids were just little bitty, I lived off McGee St. in KCMO. Original home of Lamar's Donuts. Every Sunday morning, out the back door we went to get donut holes and a paper - back home to feast and read the funnies. Those were the days....

And why not - he was there really early (he showed me the receipt) and there's no way most of us would want to battle the traffic over to Zapopan and the traffic mess around that new mall - he shows lots of initiative. However, I managed to leave the store without buying any - but - it was really hard. He said there were lines at the Krispy Kreme store.

Yeah, and the dumb gringos will buy them from Pancho, like they buy everything else that's overpriced.

Again, you have apparently never eaten a Krispy Kreme. KK, not KKK, was a Southern treat that literally would melt in your mouth. I grew up on Duncan’s and Shipley’s but once I tasted a KK I was hooked. It does seem that lately the recipe has changed, as they don’t seem to have the same melt in your mouth properties that they used to. They may not be sold on the East Coast as I am sure they would never be cultured enough to make it there. I am especially fond of them as I bought the IPO and can say, “I did make a killing on that deal”. Living in an area where Kreme was king and the rest of the country not knowing about them, I reasoned that once other people got a taste this could be the best thing since sliced bread.
