#141576 LCS

Posted by JayBearII on 31 August 2009 - 11:05 AM

I agree, sound financial footing is essential, and that seems to be dependent on the number of members, as bequests (so far as I know) are few and far between.

We continue to be members because we think it is good for the community. We are not the kind of people who only support the things in the community that they actually use. We supported the needs of our community in the US for libraries, schools and senior center; we feel the same here. So, whether we use all its services or not, we support having those services and having a place for the gringo community to hear speakers, enjoy a park-like setting where we can meet associates, etc.

With fewer newcomers arriving this year due to worldwide economic problems, fewer people will be joining and using LCS in the near future. This may be a bigger problem than the disgruntled current and ex-members. That may put more of a burden on finances.

#140663 no more organic okra etc at SuperLake

I ran into Marie restocking ACA's organic Great Greens at SuperLake and she says Pancho has prohibited them from selling anything else there like swiss chard, okra, green beans, etc. Pancho says he wants to use the space to stock cheap produce on which he can get a big markup. I'm not sure what business he thinks he's in; I think he's in the gourmet specialty grocery business and that's what both gringos and the Guad Squad flock to SuperLake for. I am really disappointed not to be able to buy the Great Greens produce there, as it is a long trip to the farm in Jaltepec and I don't get to LCS often (where ACA has a Great Greens refrig. on the back patio). If you would like to see Pancho change his policy, will you make it a point to speak to him this week? What he really needs is another open refrigerator case, but that's probably not an option.
