Residente Permanente - A One Time Deal?

19 April 2013 - 04:46 AM

In reading some of the posts here regarding immigration especially one from Maincoons stating that the new Residente Permanente process is a "one time deal" like citizenship, do I understand correctly that once you apply for and receive Permanente status, you no longer have the yearly renewals of the card and status like with the FM3 or FM2?

Would greatly appreciate clarification on this.

Duty-Free Importation of Households Goods - Self Transported?

23 August 2012 - 03:09 PM

Hello Everyone,

I'm wondering if anyone has had an experience with importing ones own household goods?

Only have a few very high end things, elaborate stereo and home theater equipment, large and heavy 10" reflecting telescope, personal tools, a few furnishings, all of which I could fit into the back of my Toyota Tundra and pulling a utility trailer. The rest I'd sell and leave behind so not enough to justify a Mover.

Is there someone to contact to help arrange the paperwork and pass through Customs? Is this what an "Agent" is and can that person be separate from a moving company or is your "Agent" the mover himself?

Also thinking about using the Laredo, TX crossing since it would be the closest drive to Chapala. Any thoughts, ideas, advise or experience with any of this?

Thanks again for your help and contributions to the board!

19 August 2012 - 10:30 PM

Question #3:

Can a person holding FM2 status still use a US drivers license to drive a vehicle (owned or rental) in Mexico or is a Mexican drivers license required to drive once holding FM2 status?

That's it for now and thanks so much again!

FM3 - FM2 - Mexican Citizenship Question? #2

19 August 2012 - 10:23 PM

Question #2:

If a US citizen also acquires Mexican citizenship, thus holding dual citizenship, would he be required by Mexican law to also pay Mexican income taxes on his US originating proceeds such as Social Security and other retirement income?
