This is really easy and does not require Bisquick.  You can use dry buttermilk and water if you can't find liquid buttermilk.

Butter a 9" cake pan and preheat oven to 425F.  Add some flour to the pan and shake it around so that the flour sticks to the sides and bottom and tap out the excess flour.

Combine 2c of sifted flour, 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder, 1c light brown sugar and 12 tablespoons of unsalted butter cut into bits.  Rub the butter into the mixture with your fingers until the butter is like fine crumbs.  Or you can cut the butter in with a two knives.  Remove 1/2 c of this mixture and set aside.

Now stir in the buttermilk, one lightly beaten egg, 1t cinnamon, 1/2 c chopped walnuts or almonds and 1/2 c currents.  When you have made a smooth batter, pour into the cake pan.

Sprinkle the saved 1/2 c of the flour mixture over the top of the batter.

Bake in the oven, reducing the heat to 375 after 15 minutes.  Then bake another 20-25 minutes.

Serve warm or at room temp with some of Cafe Grano's finest.

Thanks! IŽm definetely going to try this recipe!

Look into Superlake, by the bread section.

Thanks Carib, IŽll go check.

They've told me it's easy to make, and I've tried to do it myself but it just isn't the same...

I love it too but don't remember seeing any here.  They're not difficult to make from scratch but also Bisquick can be used to make them & they're pretty good even if Bisquick is expensive here at Super Lake.

Thanks Ginger, IŽll go look to Super Lake!
