I have a 1990 Suburban sitting in TX that has made the trip several times with no problems. HOWEVER, as pointed out, could not get it legalized in TX. Car for export only and EPA/DOT not met. DMV sent me to Auto Theft Task Force for opinion. Took them about 30 seconds to call VIN # up on computer. Even if car passes requirements, many stolen vehicles end up in MX. Too bad because I had car sold for good profit. Now I will part it out after it serves purpose of getting me back and forth a few more times. Very convenient driving MX plated car. No MX border stops. No FM paperwork trail.........

My car was stolen. No theft insurance. Reported to local police, Guad number given to me and Procuduria in Chapala. Had all paperwork. When I got to border, the check-out booth gal 'rolled her eyes' and told me I had to report it to MX City to get it out of my name. If she can't scan it, she can't do it. I blew it off because car came in under old passport.

Cruising through Uruguay tasting all the great grass-fed beef and REAL vegetables, I read news that said "URUGUAY WILL NOT ALLOW IMPORTATION OF GMO SEEDS."
I hope this holds true after current populist government leaves office. But Uruguay is an export economy (like Brazil and it's milliones of acres of GMOs), Monsanto has too many $$$ as monopolists do.
As former owner/geneticist of propriatary seed company, I say HURRAH! Contamination (and confiscation) of blameless crops that are pollinated by GMOs is unconscionable but LAW. That is even more self serving for big $$$. After all, they paid for it....
GMOs are bred tolerances to drought, pests, herbicides, etc. All good for crop yield but not for flavor, nutrition nor biodiversity.
