Interesting comments from one who's only visited. However, the views of the non-resident OP are not shared by most residents. Most foreigners living here OVERPAY their maids and gardeners, not exploit them. Wages in this area are higher than in Guadalajara. Further, the robbery and break-rates here are no higher than other places in Mexico, e.g. Guadalajara, and these crimes are committed equally against Mexicans and Foreigners. We have many Mexican friends, several college educated professionals, and some working class. We see no "seething rage" amongst them. The majority of homes in this area are owned by Mexicans, not foreigners. FYI, the foreign population makes up less than 10% of those living between Chapala and Jocotepec.

Totally agree with you. I have seen little of what was described. Of course it happens, but people who abuse the locals are in a minute minority.

I think the original poster was trying to fill her own trip, not compete with everyone else who decides to post an alternative to what she suggested. A simple yes or no would have sufficed. The Red Cross bus is full, so if you want to go, just go.
