Sabor in Joco

16 May 2013 - 12:43 PM

A few blocks from the central square; ultra modern decor and spotless.

Had lunch there yesterday with a group and was very impressed with the menu, the service and the food.

Every one of the six were delighted with dishes like the Chicken Provenzal, the fondue, the pasta with shrimp and another (forgotten) choice.  Home baked rolls; yum. Pico de Gallo; fresh and spiced from hades for heat.   Prices around 90 pesos for lunch.

Worth the topes.

Amy's Grill in Patty's Place

08 May 2013 - 12:59 PM

You can't keep a good cook down!  Amy and Faye are now partnering with Patty on Ocampo where the old Pedro's Restaurant used to be.  Today was the first day, so we went on over for lunch to check it out, say hi and have ourselves some burgers.

Very different from the Armando's situation, but this is a new beginning, so give it some time.  Right now, it's nothin' fancy.

Plastic tables and chairs, but a pleasant patio setting with your choice of sun or shade. Bar in operation.

Plenty of parking.

Menu:  A large variety of burgers, from plain to Greek and everything in  between, served with your choice of chips and dip or potato salad. You can have chicken breast instead of beef.

Amy says she'll fix it any way you want it.

My spouse had the potato salad and really liked it.  I had a good ranch dressing cup with chips.

For fans of charbroiling....that's how she cooks it.  Big burgers; good meat.

I give them top marks in the burger dept. I think she's also has chili.

Her hours are under the Announcements thread.

Hosteria del Arte

23 April 2013 - 12:33 PM

Someone passed out fliers about this "New Italian Restaurant", Hosteria del Arte, and described it as "inside the Japanese Nursery."

The only other information was directions: as West Road n.527 next to Pemex between Ajijic and San Juan Cosala.  No hours; no phone number.

Anyone been there or have any other information?

Bullying at restaurants

19 April 2013 - 09:11 AM

To start:  This isn't about my restaurant preferences re mutts and butts.  It's about common decency in our treatment of restaurant owners and/or other personnel.  Most people are considerate and check either with the restaurant or on one of these forums as to whether it's okay to bring their dog or their smokes.  That's good.  There's even a list at the top of the page re whether the welcome mat is out for the pups.

On the other hand:  four of us went to a nice local restaurant for dinner last evening.  The place is totally enclosed with no patio or outdoor dining space whatsoever, so they don't allow either smoking or dogs inside.  We were sitting within earshot of the doorway, so we heard the exchange between a new arrival and one of the restaurant personnel.  The man wanted to bring his dog in.  The restaurant person said, politely but clearly, that it wasn't allowed.  He insisted, and finally, said loudly that he was going to tell everyone he knew to stay away from that restaurant and stomped off.

This may be a unique situation.  I'd like to think so, but I've seen this kind of behavior before and sometimes, the restaurant caves in for fear of losing business.  In the slow season, that's tough.

IMO, there's no excuse for giving the restaurant a hard time when your wishes don't coincide with their policy. It's a difficult business in which to survive.   Bullying is bullying.....and it's not fair.  I felt ashamed for my fellow countrymen during this episode.

so, how IS the food at the Hacienda del Lago.......now?

04 April 2013 - 03:21 PM

The other thread in which Eric was discussed is now history.  The restaurant remains.  Anyone tried it under the new chef and how was it?  Worth the price?  I'm looking for a good Sunday Brunch or special occasion lunch.
