TV - Slingbox style
31 December 2011 - 10:42 PM
I previously had my Slingbox hooked up to my relatives cable back in Dallas with the coaxial coonection. They had the basic package from Time Warner and 15/5 internet and recently changed to Verizon Fios Extreme HD (the middle package). The internet speed jumped up to is 25/25. I have Telmex 4 mg down and .5 up here in San Juan which is not so important as the upload speed of the home location of the Slingbox. The upload speed at the home location of the Slingbox is critical as it is sending the tv broadcast.
The old Time Warner basic package picture was kind of grainy but the new Verizon Fios is so pure and clean now on my end. I have the Slingbox HD which maxes out at 1080I but most all of my channels come in at 720p.I connected the Slingbox with compoment cables from the Verizon cable box to the Slingbox.
The difference from componet compared to the old coaxial cable connection I was using previously was ASTOUNDING. Night and day. It went from grainy and low resolution to high resoltion smooth and clear, detailed, better color. The current Slingbox has no HDMI connection so component is the best connection it has.
To summarize, using a Slingbox HD, use a capable cable provider back home like Verizon Extreme HD tv, use upload speed internet at the home location of 2-4 mg, have a local pc with fairly decent specs and you can expect home tv at HD quality.
