Bad weather and leak in the fuel pipeline left without the metropolitan area.

Guadalajara, Jal. For the second time this year, since last week, a shortage of Magna gasoline in the metropolitan area of Guadalajara is recorded.

According to the president of the Mexican Association of Business gasolineros (Amegas), Pablo Gonzalez Cordova, the shortage of a few days ago originated because bad weather prevented vessels was discharged fuel import terminal in Manzanillo, which supplies about 400 stations.

Meanwhile, hydrocarbon leakage caused by a clandestine takes in the region of Tala, Jalisco, since Tuesday night, prevented the supply of gasoline Magna reaching the satellite plant in Zapopan by Salamanca-Guadalajara pipeline.

This meant that 200 service stations in the metropolitan area of Guadalajara that source of fuel in the satellite plant ran out to receive the hydrocarbon.

"Right now at 6 pm just finished work releasing the product; this will allow in a few hours can get to the Magna gasoline terminal Zapopan, "Gonzalez told The Economist.

He explained that most gas stations have fuel reserve for a day, so we were not allowed to sell this Wednesday; however, "there is a significant lag of 100 pipes were supplied not today."

According to the businessman, the ten stations that were not offering gasoline for climatic reasons "and is normalizing," while the 200 affected by the illegal seizure of Tuesday night will begin to be filled during the next hours.

Urgent actions

Since Jalisco, he said, is the states with the highest number of illegal connections and theft of fuel in the country, the president of the Amegas urged federal authorities to install electronic systems as soon as possible "that internationally managed for having control of the fuel which is transported through the pipeline. "

"The pipeline has safety systems that should be mandatory now with energy reform, as the SCADA system, allowing you to place certain safety valves every kilometers and when there is a change in pressure, as in the case of a perforation, is satellite detected and can be addressed immediately, "said the president of the Amegas.

He charged that "the great lag" that the country in security systems in Pemex pipelines causes problems such as fuel shortages facing the metropolitan area of Guadalajara.

Many areas of Guad but the news has not been forthcoming, fill up often to avoid problems. My wife could not find gas this afternoon, we will take my car and my office here is only 5 miles away but still many complain no gas.

Gee, do you think the price will skyrocket and then they will fix the supply problems and then the price won't go down? First, under delivering at the pump and now this. Supposedly world wide supplies are higher than ever...except in Guad...and Pemex is complaining about thieves!

We went from our home near Costco to the Minerva and Lopez Mateos to Americas to Patria and then passing Andares only found gas in front of 3 de Marzo stadium. We were out with friends and not searching but looking at every station to fill up.

Very crazy. Very 3rd world. Reminds me of moving to Chapala and every Cyber cafe out of ink and nobody could print. Have been without gas only 2 times in my life, California in the 70s and Cayman Islands when a hurricane blocked ships from bringing gasoline in the country for a week. What is Mexico's reason being a HUGE petroleum producer? Kind of scary if for no reason things grind to a halt and there is no gas.

As always, thanks for the heads up and the detailed information. Went out and filled up this morning, stations are very busy.

When we lived in D.C. there was a gasoline shortage. Luckily we had a big grocery within walking distance and public transit. Just parked the car and waited it out.

Aren't gasoline prices set nationally and not according the state's supplies? Nationally there isn't a gas shortage.

What is Mexico's reason being a HUGE petroleum producer?

Cars don't run on petroleum, they run on gas. That requires Mexico to send their petroleum to the U.S., have it refined into gasoline and then shipped back. Still doesn't explain a shortage only in one area.

It happened just a few weeks ago for different reasons. In Guadalajara. But so far around here the stations seem to be doing okay... I filled up this morning just to be safe.

Ha! We used to fill up before weekends, and go to the ATMs before the weekend, just to be sure, because one or the other would run out frequently. Thanks the gods those days are gone.

El INFORMADOR contactó vía telefónica a las 222 gasolineras de estos dos municipios, registradas en la lista oficial de Pemex. En total, respondió personal de 155 estaciones de las cuales 76 no tenían combustible. En las restantes no atendieron la llamada.

From El Informador this morning.

At first it was due to the rough weather they said until the people looked up at the blue skies and shook their heads, now they say it is due to people stealing gas from the pipelines, what lame excuse will they sell to the people next? Stations still have no gas and you better bet all visitors to Chapala will be buying there this weekend.

It must be isolated because the stations in our part of town haven't experienced any shortages, whereas in the last desabasto they did.

It depends on what gas station owners union affilation the individual franchise owners belong to. In the article linked to by MC, the president of the biggest union is quoted. He controls (within his organization) which stations get supplied and which ones don't. And for him to act innocent about the whole "tomas clandestinas" is ridiculous. He owes his position to my concuño, who brought him into the union solely as a press agent. He later betrayed my concuño, who was secretary to the president of the dealer's union and took over the union when the president died, (a very corrupt and powerful man during the PRI regime). The current president of the union and his cronies have been benefiting from stolen gasoline for years. Along with all of the other scams they perpetrate, many have become multi-millionaires.
