lakeside7
I just bought some Maga gasoline and the price is now 13+pesos. When is the cost going to stop rising. The cost of living must be adversely affected.
Jim Bowie
Friend just emailed me from Texas...$2.97 a gallon, and dropping. That sure beats $3.81. But, need to buy more often there. Win some, lose some.
cedros
By law/regulation gasoline prices have been going up the first of every month for years haven't they.
El Saltos
Yes, and will continue thru 2015. Cost of driving is adversely affected, cost of living not so. We drive so little here I really don't care.
Sandrita
I believe the price increases .90 centavos the first Saturday of each month...that is what a Pemex employee told me...so I fill up the Friday before, whether I need to or not. LaChula
Yes, and will continue thru 2015. Cost of driving is adversely affected, cost of living not so. We drive so little here I really don't care. It will affect you as the cost of transporting products and food will rise, too. And bus fares will probably rise, so maids and gardeners' transportation will rise. There is nothing we can do about it, but think of the consequences to you and others, and do care! More Liana
According to Luis Videgaray Caso, head of Hacienda, the monthly 9-centavo 'gasolinazos' (begun in 2010 under the Calderón administration) will stop as of January 2015. From that date forward, the price will rise according to the inflation rate. The most recent published inflation rate was 4.34%. Who knows what it will be next year! Remember that when Calderón started the monthly gas price hikes, he said they would continue until the cost of gasoline in Mexico was on a par with its world-wide cost. He didn't mention the USA as a price comparison. We should be glad gasoline doesn't cost what it does in Europe, the equivalent of anywhere between $6 and $10 USD per gallon. On the other hand, in some Middle East countries it is as low as $0.45 USD per gallon.
El Saltos
It is what it is. Get over it. I notice that nobody is complaining about their property taxes, or car license fees. Sheesh!
NLU
Generally speaking, the price of gasoline is the same worldwide. It is the taxes or subsidies that effect the price paid at the pump and change the relative price one pays from country to country, or in the united States, state to state. AlanMexicali
The monthly increases began long before Calderon. I remember it in the 1990s. I remember they were not monthly increases before Dec. 2006 when Calderón took office. They were random and gas sometimes remained the same price for months. Everytime an increase came the taxis had signs in their back windows condemning the increase and way back they would parade down the main blvds. with a convoy of taxis and banners protesting the latest increase. lcscats
We bought a used Nissan Micra (new ones are called March in Mexico) with a 1.4l motor. It gets 30 to 50mpg. We dont' care anymore. It goes 62mph/100kph at 3krpm and is quiet at that speed. We drive to the coast and you can park it anywhere. We are very happy that we got out of the habit of large cars and trucks and do not regret our decision. Our car has airbags, beams in the doors and the engine in accident is designed to go down instead of our chest. Safe enough for me. Stay open minded and check out the small cars and suvs offered in Mexico.

cooper
