Islander
I would like to find seeds of this vine. I would be interested to know if anyone has seen it in local Garden centers. TIA
bmh
I have seen it in Chiapas and Guatemala but not here. Maybe the nurseries can order it. It ss really neat on a neat on a arbor as the flowers hang down.
Joco
If you can't find it here and I've never seen it here, Luc probably has it. The trick is getting to here from Luc's. If you want his lists of plants let me know and I can email both to you, He specializes in plants you can't find anywhere else in Mexico. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Vivero-el-5to-Sol/185316601553887
Islander
We have the plant in the rental residence in Ajijic and it blooms in March. We are snowbirds and heading north by then. I could take cuttings but would prefer seeds. I will check with some Garden Centers when we'll get there. Thank you for your response bmh and Joco. This is the picture of it:
bmh
Yes I would think he climate would be ok for it here , I wonder why you do not see it here.
Yo1
The nursery next to Telmex has this growing in their garden. I've also seen it for sale at the SAT nursery. You may have to ask them to order it for you.
Joco
A dealer on Ebay in Canada sells it: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mysore-trumpetvine-Indian-Clock-Vine-Lady-Slipper-Vine-Thunbergia-mysorensis-/261579959758?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_2&hash=item3ce7616dce Ships USA only: http://www.gardenvines.com/shop/other-species-9/thunbergia-mysorensis-317.html It grows in a 10 zone so it will be a house plant most of the year up North. Good luck growing it. http://www.jaycjayc.com/thunbergia-mysorensis-clockvine/ Hardiness: USDA Zone 10-11. Being frost-sensitive, it thrives only in frost-free subtropical regions where it blooms from late winter through fall, though flowers more heavily during periods of warmer days and cooler nights. However, it flowers all seasons indoors in greenhouses.
cedros
I think it unlikely to find seeds here but you can buy the plant here. I have planted two of them this year. One of mine is flowering right now.
Joco
They want to take seeds back North but said they can take cuttings. I think it could be harder getting a whole plant across the border.
Islander
Thanks all for your notes and for the useful links Joco. I think we cannot bring the plants to Canada without some kind of certification the grower has to provide. I would not mind to bring seeds. It is interesting that it blooms for you now Cedros. In our rental place it bloomed in March and it was a monster . It will be interesting to see when it will be blooming this(next?) year. I do not know how the seed pods look like.... but can you look for the seed pods Cedros and let me know how they look like and maybe even save some, please? I will follow up on some of the links you have posted , Joco. Thanks again .
bournemouth
Islander - do check the San Antonio nursery behind Superlake - they have it growing over an archway and when in bloom it is, to me at least, spectacular.
Islander
Oh I agree with you Bournemouth, and I will check that nursery This is how it looked at our place last March:

You can see the seeds for mysorensis here; https://www.google.com.mx/search?q=Thunbergia+Mysorensis+seeds&newwindow=1&client=firefox-a&hs=Z6H&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&channel=np&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=QAAFVPjPIcWTgwTq-YKwAQ&ved=0CCUQsAQ&biw=1280&bih=589 I have a well established regular Thunbergia and have never seen seed pods or seeds. I would be tempted to smuggle a small plant back if I couldn't find seeds.
Islander
LOL. I could be temped to do that but probably will not. I could not see the seeds of the ThumbergiaMysorensis in your link Cedros, just Thumbergia Grandiflora (the blue flower) ...but I noticed my picture there from a blog I did in the spring. Thanks. Since it is so cold sensitive I'm sure time is running out for shipping it in Canada.
