thecorys Posted June 18, 2013 Report Posted June 18, 2013 Our cat brought a lizard, about 4 in long , into the house and it went under the fridge. Is there any way to get rid of it
Mainecoons Posted June 18, 2013 Report Posted June 18, 2013 They don't eat much and the cat will be highly entertained by it. Eventually, the cat will probably take care of it for you. They aren't dangerous or dirty, the lizard that is. I'm not sure I could make the same statement about Max the Maine Coon.

Ginger Posted June 18, 2013 Report Posted June 18, 2013 Leave it be. They eat bugs & are harmless. He'll probably find his way out. You could also name him.
El Saltos Posted June 18, 2013 Report Posted June 18, 2013 The cat will quickly learn which ones, not to worry.
bmh Posted June 18, 2013 Report Posted June 18, 2013 We must have had a dumb cat, he would spend his time catching lizards by the tail, would end up with the tail and would eat it, all summer the cat was skin an d bone and sick, the vet told us it was the eating of lizards that did it. Our cat never learned he did it every summer.
lakeside101 Posted June 18, 2013 Report Posted June 18, 2013 hmm. my cat catches lots of things. never eats the lizards, just plays with them till bored. other critters, yes
natbug Posted June 18, 2013 Report Posted June 18, 2013 A number of lizards eat scorpions. I vote for leaving it be.
hkrause Posted June 18, 2013 Report Posted June 18, 2013 Love lizards. Entertaining, clean and eat bugs. Hope he stays, and consider yourself lucky!
giltner68 Posted June 18, 2013 Report Posted June 18, 2013 Eating lizards can be deadly, the scales can stick or cut the throat when swallowed and the results are terminal, for the cat that is. As a cat owner over the years I've been presented with rats, lizards (large & small), birds, snakes, all sort of bugs, flying and otherwise. Just thank them and tell them you love them and move along, it's just part of having a cat. And yes, they do eat scorpions.
Tony_In_Mexico Posted June 18, 2013 Report Posted June 18, 2013 I can't believe the number of you who are voting to leave the lizard alone, or the guy who said they aren't dirty. Apparently you aren't having the same issue with geckos that I am. I get them in my house, and I was quite tolerant at first, as I'm from Florida and used to lizards in the house, but this particular variety likes to shit everywhere. I find smears of shit on my counters, on my walls, behind paintings, on doorjambs, etc, etc. I now target them with extreme prejudice when I spot one.
jguerin Posted June 18, 2013 Report Posted June 18, 2013 I agree with Tony in Mex, I had one for about 3 months in my house. Never able to catch it. Shit all over the floor, counter, and edge of the Windows. Finally I went on vacation for 2 weeks and came back with only shit spots. It was in Sept. I guess no food, no bugs he died. I even tried to let the screen open a little to let im escape, but he did not understand the message.
