bronte Posted June 17, 2013 Report Posted June 17, 2013 At approx. 4.00pm this afternoon a fatal shooting occured in San Juan Cosala. A police truck was in hot pursuit of a grey car heading towards Jocotepec. Five minutes later the police came a t high speed in the opposite direction. In the center of the town right on the carreta the car pulles over. Shots were fired immediately. One officer down. From what I could see the occupants in the car were shot immediately, and from what I heard afterwards- mortally. Before I left the scene (I was approx 150 meters from the scene) I was told the officer was not fatally shot. He was taken away by ambulance. Road now closed off. Many police on the scene.
valbogyo Posted June 17, 2013 Report Posted June 17, 2013 Thank you for an excellent, first person report.
simpsca Posted June 17, 2013 Report Posted June 17, 2013 So the only death was the person in the car the police were pursuing? I live in San Juan Cosala and don't want to go out if the carraterra is blocked. Thank you for the report.
carcamal Posted June 17, 2013 Report Posted June 17, 2013 Tweets are reporting two suspects dead and one officer wounded.
kindred Posted June 17, 2013 Report Posted June 17, 2013 I just came out of Raquet Club a half hour ago and had to snake through the village heading west to Joco and the same thing coming back. Someone told me 2 people were killed -- but don't quote me cause that's how rumors start. It was a real hassle going through the village as there are many rides set up on the main drag so had to go as far south as I could and lots of horrible potholes on that road.
jrod Posted June 18, 2013 Report Posted June 18, 2013 Notisistema.com reports 2 perps traveling in a grey Tsuru were killed and one officer gravely wounded by a bullet to the face.

simpsca Posted June 19, 2013 Report Posted June 19, 2013 Another kidnapping - shooting in Jocotopec/El Limon yesterday. Owner of a prominent restaurant told me that a man from Joco who owns 5 hardware stores was kidnapped and shot. The kidnappers apparently took him to a house in El Limon but the police were able to catch some of the guys. I don't know the status of the man that was kidnapped.
kindred Posted June 19, 2013 Report Posted June 19, 2013 Geez, here we go again. And it is always El Limon where these narcos hang out....can't the police do a house to house and flush these guys out before this crap happens -- they know they hang in El Limon and it isn't that big an area -- maybe 20 homes total. IMHO
wisecracker Posted June 19, 2013 Report Posted June 19, 2013 Thanks to all for the information. I have one question, since we appear to be in pretty much the same situation as last year why firecrackers are not banned at these times? People are on edge and the firecrackers sound like gunfire. Second question, why are people permitted into town during fiestas who have no business being there. Everyone with a stall, or coming into town should be examined carefully for drugs and weapons. Third question where is the army? Why has Jocotepec not called them in to fix a serious problem. Anyone see any army guys out there? We haven't. Looks to me like Chapala municipality is the place to live, so I may move back there until this B.S. is over. Have a condo in town. Adios Jocotepec.

bennie Posted June 19, 2013 Report Posted June 19, 2013 thankyou "hookemhorns". what "wisecracker" doesnt realize is this is a foreign country, the word "should" does not apply. i believe it is too late to educate most people, as it can be uncomprehensible. globalization brings many things, like the industry for retirement. there is an entire grey area that is skipped over. what ever is going on (in joco) is not affecting us personally, & is commen in mexico. it is also not allowed here to get involved or make suggestions. firecrackers are part of the culture so are fiestas in this part of mexico.

wisecracker Posted June 19, 2013 Report Posted June 19, 2013 3 people were shot and killed in El Limon yesterday. My gardener lives there and the entire area was sealed off. The police are back again today. He says the police need the army as backup. Until that happens, very bad things will conTinue to happen in the municipality of Jocotepec, which does indeed affect us all. The highway, formerly bad is now very dangerous both day and night. I'm definitely moving back to town until this is resolved. Starting tomorrow morning. Luckily I do have that option. So whether it takes a week or a month, I'm home free. Presumably the men shot were all criminals. That's all I have until the maid comes at one. Yes I do speak fluent Spanish, virtually bilingual. Our maid has been with us for 10 years and is 100% trustworthy.
wisecracker Posted June 19, 2013 Report Posted June 19, 2013 Please forgive me, but this is such a "funny" post. You must not have lived in Mexico more than a month. My response to your 3 questions, why did you choose Mexico, because all of these things are very normal in Mexico and will continue, Chapala area included. The Army is over in Michoacan, trying to take away the guns from the citizens protecting themselves from the KT cartel, but not going after the KT. Really? Well I think if you'll take the time to realize that I have in fact lived here for over 13 years you will maybe be able to comprehend why I chose Mexico. I am fully aware of where the army is right now. So, please get over yourself. No further commentary need or wanted. I'm short on time today.
