hkrause Posted June 17, 2013 Report Posted June 17, 2013 A friend of mine NOB would like to get some of the above medication for dogs, but it's no longer available in the US. I saw in another post (from a couple years ago) that it was available here. Is it still available? If so, can it be taken back to the US from Mexico? She will be in Puerto Vallarta later this year and would like to take some home with her. Heather
ChrisB Posted June 17, 2013 Report Posted June 17, 2013 If it is no longer legal in the US it probably isn't legal to bring it in. if caught you probably would be legally liable. Everyone is using dogs to check baggage.
fordtruckman Posted June 17, 2013 Report Posted June 17, 2013 It is still legal. The following article indicates that Novartis will start shipping the drug to vets in June. http://www.askavetquestion.com/news/2012/interceptor-sentinel-shortage/
hkrause Posted June 17, 2013 Author Report Posted June 17, 2013 Thanks, FordTruckMan. The article says June, but that was 2012. Apparently there's still some issue with getting out product. My friend says she heard it's available in Canada, Mexico and Australia, but not the US. She says it's not illegal in the US, just not available. She is a dog breeder and some of the dogs aren't able to use the medication currently available in the US for Heartworm... they have a sensitivity to it. So she's trying to find a supply here in MX. Apparently some of the breeders and vets are already ordering from outside the US. So if somebody here is familiar with the product and where it can be purchased (Lakeside and/or Puerto Vallarta), would appreciate the info. My sister will be here in August and can possibly take back a few packages for my friend to use until she's in PV later in the year. Heather
Shelley Ronnfeldt Posted June 17, 2013 Report Posted June 17, 2013 Heather, my suggestion would be to inquire at a local vet. They'll be able to tell you if it's available and where.
