craig Posted June 12, 2013 Report Posted June 12, 2013 Shortly before Charlie's accident, I invited him to stop by RRC (Recicladora de la Ribera de Chapala), in Riberas and discuss setting up a permanent program to benefit Cruz Roja by collecting plastic bottles for recycling. With Charlie now laid up for an unknown amount of time, RRC is moving forward and implementing that program: We will have jumbo bags for the most common recyclable plastics set aside for public donations to Cruz Roja. Anyone who wants to participate, can simply drop by (we're located a few doors east of the 7-11 in Riberas) and throw their bottles in the bags. When these bags are ready to be processed in to flake through our grinder, they will be weighed and Cruz Roja will receive a check for the full market value of the raw plastic... and it's not just chump-change... current market value is between 3.5 and 4.5 Pesos/Kilo. We invite you to share in our efforts to support Cruz Roja and Charlie!
blabbyabbey Posted June 12, 2013 Report Posted June 12, 2013 Fabulous idea - you will get ours. I will send an email to our Fracc office so that people here will know also. Great for Cruz Roja and for the environment. Thank you
CWB Posted June 12, 2013 Report Posted June 12, 2013 Fantastic idea. For months I've been trying to think of some way to use all the large pop bottles we have. I could have build a dozen rafts in just the last year and I hated throwing them in the garbage. We'll be seeing you every Wed. What time are you open in the morning.
tomgates Posted June 12, 2013 Report Posted June 12, 2013 Any kind, as long as there is a triangle with a number?
kindred Posted June 12, 2013 Report Posted June 12, 2013 I just re-posted this on Westenders on your behalf, Francisco.
craig Posted June 13, 2013 Author Report Posted June 13, 2013 We have brochures detailing our operation available at the Bodega in Riberas along with people to answer questions in English or Spanish. Many, but not all recyclable plastic containers are marked on the bottom with the triangular recycle icon. That triangle has a number in it to identify the type of plastic. If you've ever tried to read those numbers, you'll understand why we have young people with excellent vision here. Briefly, transparent and green-transparent water and soft drink bottles(PET), along with the opaque milk bottles are the most desirable and make up a significant portion of our product. Many of the solid-color bottles are also reclaimable, but less valuable. Removing the bottle caps is great, but not necessary. The labels on most sport drinks (Gator-Aide, etc) are PVC and need to be removed. It is tremendously helpful to have this done before they arrive. It's great to see the responses to our posting! Thank you from all of us at RRC!
stuphel Posted June 14, 2013 Report Posted June 14, 2013 does the Recycling centre take plastic grocery bags? We seem to get so many, despite trying to reuse them or use cloth bags.
CWB Posted June 14, 2013 Report Posted June 14, 2013 does the Recycling centre take plastic grocery bags? We seem to get so many, despite trying to reuse them or use cloth bags. There are many people at the local markets that would love to have those bags.
