carib Posted May 26, 2013 Report Posted May 26, 2013 The rain is here for good. I am so happy. No more watering of the yard for a while. Actually, no more hot weather this year.

giltner68 Posted May 26, 2013 Report Posted May 26, 2013 Yes, I stayed up past my bed time just to watch, and to put out soaker towels.
CCC Posted May 26, 2013 Report Posted May 26, 2013 Over 40 milimetres in Lower Riberas. It was a wonderful drenching!
maryanram Posted May 26, 2013 Report Posted May 26, 2013 Just got our electric back after about 10 hours.. 1 1/2 inch of rain in Chapala..That's rain 2 nights in a row. Could the rainy season have started early?
sm1mex Posted May 26, 2013 Report Posted May 26, 2013 Total of 1/2 inch in Riviera Alta for the last 2 nights.
giltner68 Posted May 26, 2013 Report Posted May 26, 2013 Early storms are often violent and don't follow the usual pattern, last nights rain was heaviest to the E, those to the W didn't report as much as when the storms form from the E to the W. But, it was good for all and a great start to the season, plus took the edge off the heat at least for a few days. I saw a few flickers of power and thought I heard at least one, maybe two transformers explode. Fortunately they just trimmed the trees S of Mirasol only yesterday which may have saved us, even hauled the limbs away, that's something new.
privado Posted May 26, 2013 Report Posted May 26, 2013 Just got our electric back after about 10 hours.. 1 1/2 inch of rain in Chapala..That's rain 2 nights in a row. Could the rainy season have started early? Last night was at a party with Native Tapitios- they say NO not the beginning of Summer Rain- Just normal 3 or 4 days of Late May rain-- that they have experienced all their lives----- Followed by hot dry couple of weeks Rain season to begin middle of JUne
solajijic Posted May 26, 2013 Report Posted May 26, 2013 I recall that the few days of late May rain then disappear until mid June.
Mainecoons Posted May 26, 2013 Report Posted May 26, 2013 It could happen that way. The blocking high pressure that usually sits on top of us just before it breaks down or moves off has been pushed westward by other pressure gradients but is still spinning and could slide back over us again if they weaken. Satellite views show it very clearly at the moment. the rain is still pretty limited. Came back from Costco by way of the Periferico and Chapala highway this morning and it was dry as a bone until we almost got to the mountain pass coming home. Interestingly, it appeared pretty well watered around Jocotepec and northward a ways.
Rony Posted May 29, 2013 Report Posted May 29, 2013 I hate to rain on the parade, but.... according to a scientist, working for the university of Guadalajara (today, May 29th), the rainy season has not started and will arrive (give or take 2 days) on June 13th. Here is the article : http://www.informador.com.mx/jalisco/2013/461103/6/el-13-de-junio-inicia-el-temporal-de-lluvias-investigador.htm Rony
george Posted May 30, 2013 Report Posted May 30, 2013 Normal pattern. May is the month of hope......I hope it rains, I hope it rains.....etc. etc
giltner68 Posted May 30, 2013 Report Posted May 30, 2013 George, your "hope" has been answered, this wet May is .84" over average and we still have a couple days, but yes, in many ways, May is the "practice" month - which should mean we're all ready for June. I for one have all the soaker towels out etc. I've reaccustomed myself to never getting a full nights sleep for getting up at 4am to close windows/doors etc. - ain't it a trip?
carib Posted June 3, 2013 Author Report Posted June 3, 2013 The rain is here for good. I am so happy. No more watering of the yard for a while. Actually, no more hot weather this year. I should have known better. Been here for almost 9 years and still got taken by excitement. Joco, send some over. We need it. One thing I have to say; here in Brisas de Chapala is less warmer then last year as far. Always a gentle breeze blowing. No wonder we are call Brisas de Chapala. Inside our house temperature does not go over 81. I feel the difference when I go down into town.
