nopalesflower Posted May 24, 2013 Report Posted May 24, 2013 Looks like San Luis might be getting rain. I hope it moves over the lake to West Ajijic but I doubt it. We don't get rain from that direction. But I can always hope.

Arti Riberas Posted May 25, 2013 Report Posted May 25, 2013 5-ish/6-ish thunder that seemed fairly close and then sprinkles here in far east Riberas. As many have said, I'll take anything at this point.
privado Posted May 25, 2013 Report Posted May 25, 2013 In Zapopan last 20 min Thunder, lightning and nice steady rain-cleaning my skylights Dish receiver off Dog his cringing under computer desk
giltner68 Posted May 25, 2013 Report Posted May 25, 2013 Privado, I'm not a dog person, but I hate to see an animal frightened, I've read here on the forum about some "jackets" made for dogs that apparently calms them during lightening etc. maybe that would help, just a thought.
maryanram Posted May 25, 2013 Author Report Posted May 25, 2013 We bought one of the "thunder coats" for our dog, which is terribly afraid of the thunder.Did not work for him. But maybe others.

Thanks, never heard of them- Dog a lakeside rescue, alway a little skittish with thunder and cohetes- last year moved to new house floor to ceiling windows in every room- just b4 rainy season-now could see lightning coming in every direction in house and had really strong panic attacks- Vet gave me valium for pets- put dog bed and dog in walk in closet , that helped after 1 yr in new house, hoping she will have acclimatized. Steady rain lasted almost 4 hours last night- then drizzle- what a relief
Ginger Posted May 25, 2013 Report Posted May 25, 2013 Thunder shirt works in 80% of the cases per their website. It's too bad it didn't work for Maryannram's dog but might be worth trying for others' pets. They have them for cats, too.

It's a good system because he has us right where he wants us when he decides it is time to get up and feed the cat in the morning. Actually, wind spooks him more than thunder. And cohetes are totally ignored. Go figure.

It's an anti-anxiety that might help.
PULELEHUA Posted May 25, 2013 Report Posted May 25, 2013 We have been working on the stimulus-reward method in anticipation of the summer storms:. (One dog is oblivious to thunder and cojetes, the other is not.) Seems to be working as the sensitive one did not show any signs of anxiety (but did look to me for her customary treat she now expects to follow loud noises) when the thunder began to roll yesterday. Takes several months of work, in advance of the season.
red river valley Posted May 25, 2013 Report Posted May 25, 2013 I have 6 dogs, all have thundershirts, took awhile for them to adjust, now all is fine....another item to use is Bach rescue remedy spray....couple sprays in the mouth & it will settle them down. You can get at health food store or perhaps Dr. Ladron has some.
