Heading for America? Prepare for the longest US immigration queues ever

The longest maximum average wait time for international arrivals at Miami airport rose last month to three hours, six minutes - a jump of almost half an hour on March. Travelers to New York JFK, and Dallas-Fort Worth risk waits exceeding two hours.

With a record 27 million overseas visitors anticipated for the US this summer, lines are set to get even longer. In a statement from its headquarters in Washington, the CBP said: "The effects of sequestration will continue to have serious impacts on US Customs and Border Protection, including increased wait times for customs inspections at airports".

I have to share with you that this post is a tad less humorous than you trying to catch your CFE bill. Informartive, yes. Funny, not in the least, even though it is true, also

Just got back from Seattle last night where my hubby and I had our interview with immigration for our Global Entry. With Global Entry you don't need to stand in those long lines, just use the automated kiosk inside immigration. Also you can use the priority lines at many domestic airports...no taking computers outs, shoes off, jacket off, belt off, etc. You apply online and when conditionally approved you can make an appointment at almost any international airport for your interview which takes 10-15 minutes. Cost is $100usd and it is good for 5 years. That is 20 bucks a year. Time is $

It's a wonderful program - no waiting ever at a kiosk for me at least to check in. And with a special exit you go directly to baggage claim and also have a special exit when

leaving baggage claim so you aren't in line with the others waiting to turn in their immigration card. I couldn't believe how efficient the entire system was!

Just flew North to Seattle, last Thursday, the 16th. Port of entry was LAX (Las Angeles International). I was in shock. There were NO lines and I got through customs in no time at all. Sadly this is not been what I experienced flying to Seattle via Houston.

It wasn't that there were more persons working customs, rather there seemed to be no one entering the US but those of us on our Flight. I know that couldn't be true. It's just that it seemed that way (oh I was flying Alaska Airlines and I went through customs at about 3:30 PM at LAX)

Why not get Nexus which allows you ALL of the above, plus a Sentry sticker for fast entry to the US from Mexico as well as fast entry to Canada in the NEXUS lane and costs half as much??

I had that problem flying to FT Lauderdale through Dallas -- 2 hours wait and we would have missed our connection if our connecting flight hadn't been late. We decided to come back from Rome through Cancun to avoid US customs. What a difference. It took about 15 minutes there. Flying just isn't fun anymore.
