HAS ANYONE GONE TO THEIR CONSULATE AND APPLIED FOR THE NEW TEMPORAL AND THEN COME TO INM IN CHAPALA OR GUADALAJARA AND TURNED IN THAT PAPERWORK TO START THE NEW TEMPORAL PROCESS. IF YOU HAVE PLEASE TELL ME HOW LONG IT TAKES TO GET YOUR NEW TEMPORAL. IVE FOUND I CAN APPLY AT THE MEXICAN CONSULATE IN AUSTIN TEXAS, GIVE THEM 3 MONTHS LATEST BANK STATEMENTS AND LAST YEARS us 1040 TAX RETURN, PAY 36USD AND HAVE IT IN 3 DAYS. THEN I COME TO INM IN MEXICO AND APPLY FOR THE TEMPORAL. I WILL BE HERE 2 MONTHS THIS SUMMER AND DONT WANT TO LEAVE SEPT 1 WITHOUT HAVING THE NEW TEMPORAL. THANKS

It can take 3 to 8 weeks to be ready for fingerprints and then the card comes 2 to 4 weeks after. There are sometimes ways to make your wait for fingerprints a few days not a few weeks.

If you consider the option of other locations such as San Miguel you will have your visa in 4 weeks.

???

I drive a kid to school every day so got fingerprinted on first day. Had to wait till closing time but no second trip. Get creative.

Don't everyone use the same story

How many times can a person renew and have the 4 year temporal?

Can the car be grouped and stay legally with the renewed 4 year temporal status?

If the 4 year temporal status can be renewed, does one have to take the car to the border and pay fees to keep it in Mexico?

Or is the answer that no one knows what the situation / law will be in 4 years?

We are new and will benefit from the 4 year status of the temporal (keeping our dependable fully paid for car) but I have zero understanding of what to expect after the 4 years pass.

At this point, only four years total on the Temporal and then you have to either go permanente and give up any foreign plated car or leave the country to start the visa cycle over.

Plan on getting rid of the car sometime in the next 4 years. Frankly, when you add in the factor that foreign plates are a crooked cop magnet, after living here for more than 5 years I wouldn't bring a car here at all.

I don't have that much of an issue with leaving the country to restart a new 4 year temporal after a 1st 4 year temporal expires. If we were to do that, can the car be linked to the new 4 year temporal and stay legally or does the car have to go past the border and have fees too.

Unless something changes over the next 4 years, I think you would risk losing your deposit. Based on recent experience, the communication between INM/Aduana/Banjercito seems to be non-existent as far as extensions of Car Permits goes. Also, you will have a delay probably between when your current Residente Temporal expires and when you receive your new card. During that time your TIP would expire and your deposit forfeited. Also, you would run the risk of being denied a new TIP when you came back into Mexico.

i now understand that if i come down with the visa from the consulate that inm will only give me 1 year temporal then the next year i can apply for 3 more years. im not going to do that. ill come down on 6 month tourist visas and car permits till something changes or i get tired of coming.
