My wife and I have been in Ajijic for 4 Months and finely found a GO-TO Restaurant in Ajijic. We both eat Vegan and its been a chore to find a place that will cater to our needs. We like to eat out 6-10 times a week. A friend took my wife to Gossips for lunch yesterday. She liked it so well, we both eat there last night. I liked it so well, we had lunch there today.

The owner worked as a Chef in New Orleans before he moved here. So, most of the dishes have a Cajun flavor. He has two or three vegetarian items every day and told us , if he's not real busy in the kitchen, will fix a special meal for us.

His Restaurant is "Gossips" on the main drag across the street from the clinic and Multiva Bank in Ajijic

If you like "New Orleans" food, I think you will like it.

Do you by chance have a gorgeous Great Dane?

No, do not have a Great Dane but do like Gossips. Been eating there everyday. We now tell the waiter to just bring us something Vegan. We notice someone runs out of the kitchen to the spice market next door and to the 3-4 veggie markets within the same block right after we order. Not been disappointed yet.

The owner promises to have me New Orleans red beans and rice when he returns.

Sadly, they are closing for 10 days starting today.

I'm not overly fond of the fare at Jasmin's on the plaza, but then, I'm a carnivore. I was wondering what you think of it, assuming that it has vegan food and that's you've tried it. Lots of "if's" there, I know.

Do you really mean "vegan" or do you mean "vegetarian?" They are two different terms.

I know they are very different. I don't know if Jasmin's has either or both since, as an omnivore, that was not a consideration for me. The couple who own the restaurant post on here and may tell us more. She is a very good cook, and I particularly enjoy her many chutneys.

thanks, gringal. it's always a pleasure to talk with your and your husband when you come in. yes, we do have strictly vegan dishes as well as vegetarian and meat dishes using chicken, lamb and specials of shrimp and fish.we can also accommodate people that are avoiding wheat or nuts or sugar. indian food has such variety that you won't miss the meat and dairy , but if you're hankering for some chicken vindaloo or tikka masala or lamb kebabs, we have them too. this last week we made masala dosas, a kind of potato/peas stuffed indian crepe , completely vegan with a classic coconut chutney. and a vegan organic pumpkin curry made from squash grown in the restaurant garden. we will make some more this week. since you are so fond of our chutneys we made some mango chutney this week using the lovely mangos that are in season now....

Yes, we have been there several times and the owner has been very accommodating . The food has been very good.

Our own preference is, we don't like Indian food that much. My wife and I prefer "southern Cooking" such as Red Bean & rice, veggy soup, green beans, egg plants, etc. We just started cooking at home more ( out of flustration at lack of locale Rest we can eat at) and having a great time at the locale markets which have a great selection of veggies this time of year.

For people who like Indian style food, I highly recommend Jasmin's

Gossips is also one of my favorites. The gossip club sandwich, and rib eye burger are highly recommended, just not for the vegans! The masala fries are worth a try too.
