maw7815 Posted May 13, 2013 Report Posted May 13, 2013 This was just sent to me from friends who live near Andares Mall. maw Amazing how many cartel guys they are still catching in Zapopan http://beforeitsnews.com/immigration/2013/05/semar-raids-building-in-zapopan-el-azul-killed-cjng-leader-el-mencho-arrested-2446088.html
Hud Posted May 13, 2013 Report Posted May 13, 2013 Zapopan is a "rich" area, and cartel guys have money.
Tangawizi Posted May 13, 2013 Report Posted May 13, 2013 Not so fast, Maw ... something went down and somebody probably got killed but it seems the main target might have escaped. Check Borderland Beat; their reporters are monitoring the latest developments on this and up to now, there's been no official report on who was killed/captured/whatever. BTW, El Azul is a major player and if he was killed, that would be a significant development. But don't send the funeral wreath quite yet.
Mainecoons Posted May 13, 2013 Report Posted May 13, 2013 If he did, there's plenty more where he came from to take his place. The war on drugs is a big fat failure.
privado Posted May 13, 2013 Report Posted May 13, 2013 This happened inside Andares Mall- the building pictured- PF Changs is on the first floor and only about 5 blocks from where the military killed Nacho Colonnel 2 yrs ago- El Azul supposedly was the successor to the throne- 2 blocks from where the Secretary of Tourism was assassinated 3 weeks ago It's my neighborhood shopping area-my neighbors daughter and new husband live in that building! Kudos to the military -luckily no innocent bystanders injured -

Borderland is just rehashing what Informador, Universal, Milenio newspapers are writing and using their photos- then putting in their 10 cents of opinion along with lots of posts from NUTS NOB who use this blog to express their biases towards Mexicans and Mexico -
Hud Posted May 13, 2013 Report Posted May 13, 2013 -luckily no innocent bystanders injured - That, is our biggest worry here at lakeside.

BB usually gives the sources for readers who want to chase down the original story. When they have time to do a genuine translation, it sure makes more sense than GoogleTranslate for those of us who are still learning Spanish. The opinions of the BB reporters are worth looking at, whether you agree with them or not. As for the other comments, of course there are the usual nutjobs but occasionally there are signs of intelligent life. You have to sort out the nuggets of genuine information from the rest of the muck. Or ignore the comments altogether and just read the main articles.

I'm not a fan-my issue with BB Blog is-Why??The Blog's in English -Not Spanish--- Who are They- What's their purpose ?? ONLY to report narco violence in Mexico- Why??- they are not journalists escaping Mexico to write about violence in their communities-They are not writing for expats who live in Mexico- Who & Why--- a blog directed at Vigilantes who are armed and taken it upon themselves to search out illegal Mexicans, Guatemalans who are attempting to cross the border in Arizona -men without badges smashing water containers set up by the Border Patrol to help dying people lost in the desert- Promote fear in Americans- why?? PBS ran a documentary on self proclaimed Border protectors about 2 weeks ago - the US now has 25,000 Border Patrol Agents- more troops than serve in Afghanistan - Europe took a much more enlightened course and solved it's historical border issues without use of a military- Immigration Reform
cookj5 Posted May 15, 2013 Report Posted May 15, 2013 Unfortunately, the chief impact of capturing or killing the top guys in one of these cartels is to set off a chain reaction of new violence. The lower level folks immediately begin to jockey for who will take over the cartel. The result is a civil war among the various factions inside the cartel. Other cartels who are competitors then try to move in on the decapitated cartel's turf, which in turn sets off another chain of violence. By the time all this sorts itself out and the cartel has a new leader, or has been absorbed into another cartel, many people have been butchered. Then the authorities go after the new leader and the process repeats itself. I wouldn't be particularly concerned about the cartel guys knocking each other off, if so many innocent bystanders weren't hurt in the process. The cartels didn't exist until the so-called War of Drugs was declared by Richard Nixon, and pursued by every president since, regardless of party. Drugs became enormously lucrative as a result. To control this wonderful new north-of-the-border market, criminal organizations grew up, their viciousness increasing with the increase in the potential for profits. So, here we are. Drugs at the street level are more available, higher in potency, and relatively less expensive than they were when Nixon declared his "war". Large, complex, well-funded, well-armed, and extremely vicious criminal organizations have taken hold in Mexico and are gaining ground in many other Latin American locations. The cartels are now operating throughout the US. Hundreds of billions of tax dollars have been spent on the effort to stop the trafficking with an overall effect of zero, in spite of the US imprisoning a greater percentage of its population than any other country on the planet, the majority for drug-related offenses. Also, in spite of 50,000+ dead in Mexico over the last decade. Is anybody ready to say "enough" on this insane War on Drugs? We need to legalize all drugs, regulate the production, distribution, and sale, tax the result, and use the funds to pay for drug education and rehab. Treat drug abuse as a public health problem, not a criminal justice problem. Take the profit out of drugs and the whole cartel structure will collapse. Then, of course, we'll have the problem of thousands of young men, armed to the teeth and inured to violence, who have no way to make a living. Just one more ramification of our pursuit of this insane War on Drugs.
