More Liana Posted May 4, 2013 Report Posted May 4, 2013 It's not difficult. After you move, go to the place to get license plates in your new location. Tell them you want to 'dar de baja' (cancel) your license plates from the old location and 'dar de alta' (activate) new license plates for your new state. You will need to present your official identification, a comprobante de domicilio no more than 3 months old, the factura original, proof that your tenencia (if any) has been paid for the last five years, and a few other documents. It would be best to ask in your new location which documents are required; the ones I mentioned are just examples. Again, it's not difficult, but it can be time-consuming. And of course there is a cost for the new plates, and there may be a cost to cancel the old plates.

You need to leave for Guad at 5 in the morning and line up to await their opening. If lucky you'll be home by 3 in the afternoon. At least that's my experience; and, of course only a Jalisco experience.
Ferret Posted May 4, 2013 Report Posted May 4, 2013 We bought our chevy C2 new in Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco...we requested Nayarit Plates because that's where we lived at the time and they obliged. When we moved here, we changed the Nayarit Plates to Jalisco Plates. Driving into Guadalajara in the dark in the wee hours of the morning did not appeal to me. So, we used a facilitator. Painless. Luis Peguero did this for us. He also works for Spencer (Intercasa) on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Intercasa Posted May 5, 2013 Report Posted May 5, 2013 Luis works for us everyday now and we check the papers before we send him with you to avoid unpleasant surprises like fines, fees or a missing document which means a wasted trip. Best advice is to NOT BUY a car with plates from another state as there can be unpleasant surprised lurking, if the seller is legit put a deposit and make the seller change the plates. I have another person to send to do the plate change as well. We do about one per month for people who are changing from another state. If a change needs to be done in the offices of the state of Michoacan, I can help.

I cannot tell you the number of times he drove me into the hospital to see hubby...and took hubby to various Doctor appointments in Guadalajara. His calm and friendly disposition and great driving skills helped us get through some rough times. We always planned everything around the days he wasn't working for you. We're happy for you both.
