ajijicis4me Posted May 3, 2013 Report Posted May 3, 2013 Have you ever used a self storage area in the US? Are they safe? Can you buy insurance for the contents? I might have to drive my vehicle out of Mexico with stuff in it and fly back because of these new INM rules that apply to vehicles. I'll borrow a friends car here because they're only here 10 weeks a year until the house sells.
RVGRINGO Posted May 3, 2013 Report Posted May 3, 2013 We used one in Laredo back in 2001, on our way down. Dropped a UHaul full of stuff and turned in the trailer. Went back with the SUV a month later. No problems, no insurance.
Jim Bowie Posted May 3, 2013 Report Posted May 3, 2013 All the ones I know of have outside cameras from all directions and a locked gate with guard. Never bought insurance, suppose you could, if you thought you might need it.
maryanram Posted May 3, 2013 Report Posted May 3, 2013 We also took a u-haul to Laredo.and turned in that truck..Used the storage for a year, returning twice with a 5x8 cargo trailer and SUV.Never took insurance, although I think they offered it. Never had a problem with security.
privado Posted May 3, 2013 Report Posted May 3, 2013 We used many for months at to store excess new inventory from our warehouses.- very secure never any problems or thefts.
osuespirit Posted May 3, 2013 Report Posted May 3, 2013 We used a storage unit in Houston the first year we were down here. Then went back the following year and either distributed to family or threw away everything that was in there. We found we could do without it.
CSOKI Posted May 3, 2013 Report Posted May 3, 2013 Yes, in San Antonio, Texas. Very secure. The only problem we had was with humidity. Our large trailer was parked there for a year. The storage compartment had no ventilation. Buy the best padlock you can find. You will be OK.
ajijicis4me Posted May 3, 2013 Author Report Posted May 3, 2013 Thank you all for your replies. Would you store your vehicle in it with the goods inside?
valseagull Posted May 18, 2013 Report Posted May 18, 2013 I had a storage unit in San Diego with Public Storage for two years. Actually, I had one much of the time I lived there as well. Very reputable. Climate controlled. Limited access via locked gates with keypad and code. Insurance required. I just sent you a PM about your vehicle and I'm realizing now that your car isn't MX plated yet, so that message may be irrelevant.I had a storage unit in San Diego with Public Storage for two years.
