Alfa Posted February 15, 2013 Report Posted February 15, 2013 My daughter in Canada subscribes to Netflix and her contract allows her to add two additional users. Her daughter in Edmonton is one and now I have become the second. I just Googled their site, entered her user ID and password and voila... Don't think much of their line up of movies though. Did not see any of the newer films.
Tony_In_Mexico Posted February 15, 2013 Report Posted February 15, 2013 Yeah, they aren't very good about getting new releases in a timely manner. However, check out House of Cards, their exclusive series starring Kevin Spacey.
gary c. Posted February 16, 2013 Report Posted February 16, 2013 Are you getting Netflix Mexico? It is limited, but there are some good shows. Just have to do a lot of searching. You don't see everything on the opening screens. I agree about watching House of Cards. Excellent. We have also enjoyed watching several British crime series. It was nice to see an entire series from first year to last. If you are hiding your IP address, you can watch Netflix from different countries, which broadens your listings.
Tony_In_Mexico Posted February 16, 2013 Report Posted February 16, 2013 Yeah definitely difficult to do any number of things down here without a VPN. I use OpenVPN (strongvpn.com) at $30 a month and consider it a great investment.
Kismet Posted May 21, 2013 Report Posted May 21, 2013 HI. Ii have looked on the internet for Netflix for Mexico. The only page does not show you what shows are available. You need to sign up for your 1 month free first, which I don't want to do untill I see the selection. Can anyone direct me to a website which displays what is available for streaming on a tablet (Kindle HD)? ONE MUST EXIST! 30 usd a month is over my budget to go the IPS switch route. In fact, I haven't had success in the past with any of those services, albeit I haven't gone to the $30 a month ones.
jrod Posted May 21, 2013 Report Posted May 21, 2013 Look at a service called HideIPVPN. It's $5.99 a month and you can just download from the internet.
TioBob Posted May 21, 2013 Report Posted May 21, 2013 I am very pleased with Witopia. It was between 50 to 60 dollars per year. Best of all it self installs.
maw7815 Posted May 21, 2013 Report Posted May 21, 2013 I highly recommend Strong VPN Client. I paid $54 US for a whole year. I always connect to a Miami server and my speed doesn't go down. I chose them because I saw a lot of customers in Mexico and Ajijic that gave testimonials. I am hooked on Netfix USA- lots of BBC movies and series. Just finished watching 5 seasons of Doc Martin. If I don't sign in to Strong VPN, then I only get Netfix Mexico which has mostly older movies and the only series they had was Nurse Jackie. I have so many series in my Instant Que, I don't know which one to watch next. I have White Collar, Pysch, Burn Notice, Luther, In Plain Sight, Glades, etc Then there are all the BBC series- not enough hours in the day to watch everything but it sure beats watching the reruns on TV. maw
brercottage385 Posted May 21, 2013 Report Posted May 21, 2013 I also use Strong VPN - with my US Netflix account and have not had a problem with downloading or viewing.
spacedebris Posted May 22, 2013 Report Posted May 22, 2013 I use http://www.unblock-us.com/ 4.99 USD/month and you can pick the netflix region you want to watch. Sweden, Norway, UK, US, etc. Each country has a slightly different lineup so it is a nice feature. Take a look at http://www.moreflicks.com/ and see what is playing where.
deGimp Posted May 23, 2013 Report Posted May 23, 2013 I used a VPN in the past and it works, but soon after Netflix became "legally" available in the Mexico a free unblocking service became available. It's called Hola.org. I've been using it for at least 6 months and with far fewer outages than with Telmex Infinitum. Hola! works with Internet Explorer, Chrome, and Firefox (more?) My favorite browser is Chrome, but for some reason it seems to work better with Internet Explorer. Besides NetFlix this method also provides access to other blocked services such as HULU, Pandora, ITv, Fox, CBS, A&E, SyFy, USA, some BBC and a bunch of others I really don't care about.
ComputerGuy Posted May 24, 2013 Report Posted May 24, 2013 Well, I just tried Hola.org on my otherwise pristine Windows 7 setup, and it refuses to display Hulu, Showtime, any U.S. network, and Rolling Stone intended-for-U.S. videos. Regardless of which browser I use. I hope some other folks will try it and let me know. Not only that, it refuses to uninstall. Not impressed, sorry.
barcelonaman Posted May 24, 2013 Report Posted May 24, 2013 up until a month ago hola was fine, could use bbc iplayer, but this has now been deleted. according to hola facebook page you now need to write a hola script to access . way too technical for me...use search on the hola unblocker and will take you there.always worked with ie.. never had problems unistalling, am using android ics. if you figure out how to re establish iplayer please pm me. thanks
hkrause Posted May 24, 2013 Report Posted May 24, 2013 Is anybody using an IP blocker at the router level? Would llike to setup a Roku on my TV, but doubt it will work here with the Mexican IP. Haven't tried it, though... is anybody using one down here (we originally set it up in the US, if that's relevant)? Heather
ComputerGuy Posted May 24, 2013 Report Posted May 24, 2013 I've set up a couple of Rokus with IP blockers; they work fine. I use the software provided by the VPN service, which alters the DNS of your Internet cards, not the router. It is installed on every PC that will be using it. This allows the modem to do its own thing.
deGimp Posted May 27, 2013 Report Posted May 27, 2013 Well, I just tried Hola.org on my otherwise pristine Windows 7 setup, and it refuses to display Hulu, Showtime, any U.S. network, and Rolling Stone intended-for-U.S. videos. Regardless of which browser I use. I hope some other folks will try it and let me know. Not only that, it refuses to uninstall. Not impressed, sorry. Sorry it doesn't work for you. I've used it on both Win 7 x32 and x64. I'm running it on a crummy slow Acer laptop, which has a horrible graphics card. There are two ways to install Hola!; The one I like is a widget for Chrome, which doesn't require the full Hola! install. The second is the one that ComputerGuy likely used which installs a program which creates a new VPN type network which you can see in the Network and Sharing Center. When I used this install on my Win 7 x32 it sped up downloads, but was hardware intensive. Installed on x64 it's as smooth as silk. As an experiment I just went in and uninstalled using Control Panel's Programs and Features and it went without a hitch. There is a message after uninstall that says "can't release socket", but in reality it does so a second or two later. I also have Netflix and Hola! installed on my generic Android 7" tablet and it works great! It's nice for watching a TV program or Movie out on the terraza.
Tony_In_Mexico Posted May 28, 2013 Report Posted May 28, 2013 Just FYI, earlier I stated that Strong VPN cost me $30 a month. I was mistaken. I do pay $30, but that gets me 3 months of the service.
Out1 Posted May 28, 2013 Report Posted May 28, 2013 I use openvpn from privateinternetaccess.com on my dd-wrt router; $39 USD per year; works like a charm; all computers and my bluray player are routed through the vpn

I'll try it on another machine; I did not use the widget, as you figured. (The install .exe adds a virtual netork adaptor with its own IP and default DNS server.) Thanks for the info.
