I know this topic has been discussed before, but can't find it. Where do we renew our licenses? What do we need to take with us and what are the hours? Is it a long process? Thanks in advance.

As a newbie here may I ask a bit more? When I move there, will I need a Mexico/Jalisco drivers license for my Mexican plated car? How does one go about it? Is there a written/driving test?

Yes, you need a Mexican license. We had a facilitater (sp) who took us for the test. With him, we didn't have to take the driving test, but took the written but he told us all the answers. We paid 1000 pesos for him. You can do it on you own, but you better know Spanish unless that has changed.

Sorry, but that is wrong. Facilitators are not permitted any more. There is a sign to that effect at the SVT site.
You do not need an Jalisco driver's licence. Your US license is just fine, until it is about to epire. Then, you can go ahead and get the Jalisco license. There is an eye test, a written test on a couputer (you'll get help) and sometimes a simple driving test.
We've renewed our TX licenses online and have a couple of years before they expire. When that happens, they won't renew them again, so we'll finally, after a decade, get Jalisco licenses. We drive both SD and Jalisco vehicles. No problem.

Just got my Jalisco driver's license yesterday. After a previous visit, I was dreading it, but it went fine. No facilitator.

Make sure you have all your documents - and a copy. If you rent, you MUST have a certificate of residency, available at Chapala Palacio Municipal (Ps31 cost) from the office of the Secretaria General. (2nd floor rotunda, east side.) Passport, FM2/3/T, old license, CURP.

On my first visit, I arrived about 10 a.m. and they must have been busy. I left after an hour with no service. Yesterday I arrived at 8:50, when I left about 10:30, no other customers. Two guys were on duty who spoke English and were helpful, patient and cared. The three females were "otherwise engaged", although one did deign to process a few papers. One guy was the Validad officer who led the process. A kind, earnest young man who really was great. He scanned all the originals into the machine (after methodically verifying that the copies I presented matched precisely!). The other guy (apparently presuming I would pass) took my photo and fingerprints and gave direction. The Officer then administered the written test: Ten questions, which the Officer administered. He interpreted the questions into his not very good English and clicked on the answer I chose. (Got 9! Hooray!)

Then we got in my car and drove around the neighborhood. Searched for a place to parallel park. Oops! One demerit: PUT ON THE FLASHERS WHEN YOU REVERSE! The Officer was most pleasant, but demanding.

At no point did I (even think of) offering a propina, and there was never any hint at one.

So look out!! I'm now legal to drive for four years!!

Our friends with a Mexican plated car and Florida driver's license were stopped by the police and given a ticket for not having a Mexican license with a foreign-plated car. I guess the cop was looking for propina. Sorry, I was wrong. But, where do we go to renew our licenses and what do we need to take with us?

Well just failed the test the 3rd time. Parallel parking was my downfall. I measured the distances last time - 22 inches in front and 15 inches in back. I found it impossible (for me) with a Ford Explorer. The rest was simple, I agree. So now I am at a loss. I am looking for anyone with info on Guad and test / or a teacher /facilitator to teach me how th accomplish this task.

There was no parallel parking required when I took the test in Guadalajara 2 years ago.

To liquipure, I was failed the first time for the same reason. I'm sure he wanted me to offer mordita, but I didn't. He said come back in 15 days. I came back and had decided when he put the cones down I was going to dare him to park in the space he had given me. I had also decided to go ahead and pay him a bribe and get it over with. When I showed up he told me to go deposit $350 pesos in the bank and I would get my license. When I returned from the bank the girl finished the paperwork and handed me the license. No test. It just a matter of luck and their whims how you're treated.
