I contacted Spencer to ask how I should exit Mexico. I am a FM3 status and plan on leaving Mexico
permanently. I am flying out from GDL airport. There were several options, but the easiest one was this:
Check in at the Immigration Booth by the Food Courts and make out the Immigration Form as usually done for temporary travel out of Mexico.
On the Form write these words " Salida Definitiva' on the exit slip. Basically means, leaving permanently.
The Immigration officer should take my FM3 (the original) as I am turning it in to Immigration and return the stub portion of the Immigration form back to me where I will present to the airline for ticket check-in.
That is the easiest way to be compliant with terminating your FM3 status. This procedure eliminates the
task of visiting a Canadian or US Embassy. Thank you Spencer for the information.

There have been numerous posts about people leaving- lots of naysayers BUT
in addition to the OP -
Went to see my American Doctor in Guad- He is also the Physician for the Canadian Consulate
told me his desk is stacked with patients medical files because so many people are leaving Ajijic and Chapala area permanently and have requested copies of their records.
Kind of belies the statement from the new Prez of Gil that business is really booming - maybe selling = not buying
