I know this has been discussed before, but our search function won't let me use "Bus" or ETN because there aren't enough letters.

One of my younger relatives wants to come for a visit. He can't afford airfare, but likes the idea of traveling on a bus. I know there are people here who go back and forth to the border (he would be coming from Austin, TX) by bus frequently. If I could get some more information.....price.....travel time....etc., I will forward it all to him and we will see just how badly he wants to see Mexico.

Although it requires crossing the border on foot or by cab, I prefer taking Greyhound/Americanos to Laredo and ETN/Turi-Star from Nuevo Laredo to Guadalajara. I've heard of several experiences of the through buses being held up for hours because one passenger doesn't have the right paperwork or passport. Crossing the border on your own is a snap and very safe. The ETN/Turistar buses are super comfortable and roomy and make very few stops. The trip from Austin to Laredo is about 5 hours and from Nuevo Laredo to Guadalajara is 13 hours. You can easily get from one bus terminal to the other across the border in 30 minutes. PM me for more details.
