I do take most things I read in the paper with a pound of salt. If indeed he is found guilty of these allegations, I trust he will be required to pay his debt to society. Although I was saddened to see him spiral downward through his drug usage, I must say I never saw anything from Chris that would make me think he was a fugitive from justice in the U.S. nor did I see any evidence of an inclination towards young/teenaged girls. I believe the girlfriend he had for many years is in her late 20's at this point.
In fact, after I was sexually assaulted (almost raped) up on the hill behind Ajijic near the Capilla several years ago, he worked very hard to try and locate the young man who attacked me. He would call me every time he or one of his friends heard anything or saw someone fitting the description of the attacker. On several occasions, he drove me to worksites where this person supposedly had been seen.
I'm sure none of us know the truth at this point and can only hope that justice will prevail.

Hi Val,I met Chris in 2001 when we purchased a home in Ajijic. He was well educated, charming, pleasant and amazingly talented in all things electronic. Didn't see him again for many years (apparently he'd moved to San Miguel de Allende). I saw him again in Ajijic when he was doing graphic design for the Lake Chapala Review. He was a local Mac/Apple guru and had many clients in the lakeside area. All seemed well (from my personal experiences) until about 2 years ago when he lost his job, his Dad died and his girlfriend of 7-8 years dumped him. It seemed that in a relatively short amount of time, the young man I knew changed into what appeared to be a drug addict. His condition deteriorated pretty rapidly and I lost contact with him for the last 18 months. I had no idea of his alleged past history in the U.S. and basically knew him as a pretty talented techno/geek.

Thanks for putting everything in perspective again. I do not know the man but as always, there is always more than one side to a story.
And as you said, let us hope that justice will prevail.
Bye !

Yes he does. He has been with me for a long time. We know his family, where he lives and he works for a lot of my neighbors. He is in the early 60 and a very honorable and decent human man.Your gardener stays in your house?

So, going by what the Associated Press says - an organization that is so desperately afraid news print is on the way out that they have joined Fleet Street in their sensationalist bunk - we have all decided this guy is a pedophile, right?
What age was Mary when God got her pregnant? 16? Is God a pedophile? God and/or/ nature, whichever you believe in, has made it so that children can have sex and conceive from about the age of 12. In fact there are cases of conception that are even younger. God is supposedly omnipotent right? Surely he has the power to make us all like dolls - sans genitalia - until that almighty ring is slipped over our fingers and then "hey presto" new toys! Even with this power, he doesn't???
"Underage" is a concept we came up with. It is for practical reasons, so that children don't have children and limit their lives to raising other children before they have lived their own lives, acquired an education, perhaps even gainful employment. We are the ones who go against nature and say "hold off until you have traveled, studied, worked, loved, etc., before making such a commitment.
So Everyone under the age of 18 is underage? My Grandmother married my grandfather when she was 16. They lived long and happy lives and had wonderful, centered children. Should he have been imprisoned?
In Mexico there is a woman of 26, a psychologist who had an affair and has eventually married a boy of 16. She has had a baby by him. I told her if they lived in the US she'd be in prison, he'd be in therapy and the child would be a ward of the state in foster care. As it is, they live with their extended family which accepts them and their decision with open arms and everyone is delighted.
I knew Chris. He did not work for IBM or Microsoft, he was an Apple genius. Although he did get into drugs after his (adult) girlfriend and he broke up, just as his father died and he lost his job working for the Lake Chapala Review when Judy King was brought on as editor, (to be replaced by one of Ms. King's friends, who had to call him constantly to tell her how to run the computer), he never evinced any of the characteristics described by the AP hooey, other than the drugs. If he was inclined towards little girls, why were his girlfriends in their twenties and thirties?
It's easy to judge and cast aspersions. It's easy to join the masses of self-righteous and condemn. Much harder to evaluate the facts.

If he is innocent, why did he flee before going to court?Never ceases to amaze me... why do we need courts? All we have to do is ask the web-board members and all the other pseudo specialists. They'll tell you who is guilty/innocent, etc. People love that seductive self-righteous feeling that comes with condemning other people... even the worst offenders in prison - father rapers and mother stabbers love to feel that they are on the side of right.

When I was around him, he bragged about dating attractive young women. Admitted they were sometimes under 18. Several of us warned him that a brother of father was going defend her honor and I heard that a few times somebody did. Just say I wasn't just shocked at the accusations. And having sex with someone you have drugged and video taping it is never acceptable not matter the age.
