There is a very young colt, maybe only 3 or 4 months old, loose and standing all alone with no mare in sight on the edge of the carretera just east of La Cristina on the lake side. Heavy weekend traffic streaming by and this little guy is just feet away from a horrible death! He may have crawled through a fence and can't find his way back. Does anyone know where his home and owner is? There was no one anywhere near. If you think you know, please post and if anyone in that area has any ideas to get him off the highway before dark, love to hear it. I know how it is against the law to even touch someone else's livestock here but this little guy could be road kill soon.

If he is out in the street and has no brand he is anyones horse. If his Mamna is nearby he would not wander far from her and she would be calling him hysterically . Only someone who can rope or the charro guys like the ones found renting horses in La Floresta would be able to catch him.

We saw him yesterday on Ocampo near the old Villa del Arte restaurant. He was running up and down he street and terrified. I was hoping he found his mother or someone would rescue him. I hope somebody does something for him as this is over 24 hours since we have seen him on the street.

I've tried calling Gudron Jones but she is not available. Is there anyone in La Cristina who could go check on this little guy and look for a brand? Maybe get him off the road somewhere safe for the night? Anyone?

I just drove the carretera from La Christina to the Pemex and didn't see anything. No chance of finding him this late, but hopefully he is somewhere in El Bajio and safe. We're riding tomorrow and will look for him.

A friend in La Canacinta went looking for him just now and couldn't find him. None of the guys at the Pemex had seen him, but, if he came down Ocampo, he would not have passed by the Pemex. Looks like he has either gone behind the brush or off onto a side road (hoping he took that option). She will go out again tomorrow morning and look for him again. If he is located, the question then is, what can be done for him? This little guy looks too young to even be weaned- wondering if the mother is laying dead in the high brush along the carretera somewhere?

Something happened to the mama for sure, if he is that young he would not have left her. Maybe the thing to do is talk to the horse rental guys and get cell phone #'s of those willing to help in case he is spotted. Camarone has a cell phone but Pequeno and Regino are the best ropers.
if someone on horseback came up on him he might follow. Also if he comes up on some horses in a feild he might hang around to be near them. Do you know where there are any fields of horses being kept near where he is being seen? Look there,..good luck!

Heartbreaking ;-(

But not hopeless! The little colt with the broken leg was saved from a dismal fate because people cared and got involved. He now has a good home and is getting love and attention. If we work together, we can spare this little guy from being hit on the road and either find his owner (and he better have a really good excuse for this!) or if he is abandoned, get him adopted so he has a chance at life.

Please, anyone who sees him in the Canacinta or La Cristina areas tomorrow, please post here so we can find him. He is small, brown, and all alone. Thanks!

Someone go to the horse people in La Floresta in the morning and get Regino. He helped Gudren and me with another horse. It is not a good idea to try on your own if you don't work with horses.
I would go but I an not in Mexico.

The baby is in the field between the carretera and the road into El Bajio on the south side. There are several horses tied there grazing on the very tall grass and baby is snuggled up to one of them. I don't know for sure if that's 'Mom', but he's staying pretty close. Good looking little guy. He followed us for a few steps when we rode by but 'Mom' nickered and he went back.

Thanks for the update Gwynne. All's well that ends well.

We'll try to keep an eye on him. These horses are moved around constantly. We'll see some that we recognize around Los Charales and then we'll see the same ones close to Six Corners. If he stays close to 'Mom' he'll be OK.
