We have an opportunity to catch a ride over and back to San Miguel for a few days in mid August. Been checking B&B accomodations there, yikes! Any suggestions for where to stay in centro San Miguel appreciated. We won't have car and esposa is a bit limited on long walks so we do need to be within a few minutes walking of the attractions there.

Thanks!

Keep in mind taxis pass every couple of minutes and are 30 pesos to most anywhere in city meaning you can be just a few blocks further out and save some pesos. There are some awesome boutique hotels very central but prices crazy along with Rosewood which is absolutely gorgeous. Mainecoons, the Real de Minas may work as often specials especially mid week. Many, many tourists here until Aug 20 when school starts.

There are other basic, clean rooms within a block of the jardine for 400 p a night.

I second the motion for Real de Minas. Very clean, modern hotel with mini-splits in every room for comfort. Breakfast included. No frou frou decor, though. Huge place, caters to business people. Nice pool.
Close enough to walk to most things, and yes, those taxis cruise everywhere, all the time. We've stayed there on several occasions.

There are a ton of great inexpensive places here in San Miguel. Huespedes Feliz on the Ancha de San Antonio has 6 comfortable rooms with kitchenettes for under $40 a night and a lovely bilingual hostess. We spent a month there this past winter. It's surrounded by excellent cafes and restaurants and less than 10 minute's walk to El Jardin. A bit more upscale but still on $50 a night is this place:

Feel free to PM me for other options.

Just checked out La Morada Hotel for you. It is 200 feet from the jardine.Room is 1950 p incl taxes per night which is not cheap but location is perfect and photos of rooms really nice.

Thanks. That's just way too expensive for a room we won't be spending that much time in. We booked at another place. Unfortunately, we'll only have 3 nights there this trip as our ride had to cut their stay short.

I second the El Jardin de Don Quijote. It's a 10 minute walk to centro, but as stated by an earlier poster, taxis are easy to flag down and are cheaper than Lakeside.

I don't know about the minimum, but I was paying between 30 and 50 pesos to go anywhere around town, not just centro.

Taxis in the core including up to Mega, Bodega Aurora, Immigration and north to Mexiquito by the far Pollo Feliz is 30p.

Up to the mall in which are Soriana, Liverpool and movie theater etc is 40 p max. but if going up there one can catc h the trolley "bus" for free from the jardine.
