Hello...we are new to Ajijic, and because of the new airlines rules, we were unable to bring our cat with us. She has been at our Vet in San Antonio, TX for over a month now...do any of you know of anyone who is traveling by car from (or through) San Antonio, Texas to Ajijic/Chapala or even Guadalajara? She's a small cat, and has all the travel documents and crate...Help!

Since we just went thru this trying to get our elderly family dog from Baltimore to here I can tell you that there are companies that do this and make all the arrangements. That might be your best bet to be assured the cat arrives. It would be horrible for someone to try to assist you and get to the border and for some reason not be allowed to bring the cat over, then what they do?

I am in the same situation. I am still in Canada and I can get to Mexico City or Puerta Vallarta via Air CANADA, but I can not figure out how to get from there to Ajijic. MJC

You could arrange to have a driver from Ajijic meet you at the airport in Puerto Vallarta (nearer than Mexico City) and bring you here.

The Miramontes family are well known here and provide this kind of service. You can call Francisco Miramontes on his cell phone - he speaks good English - and set this up. Dialling from Canada his number would be 52-1- 333-157-8060 plus whatever you need for international dialling - or you could email him at:
miramontes-transfer@hotmail.com.

I heard that this was being reversed, in September I thought. Maybe check online and see and if this is true wait till September. I hope what I've read is true as I am coming down for the winter and have two dogs to bring. So much trouble caused by this.....hope you're able to get kitty to you. Good Luck!

This is the previous thread that posted an American Airlines memo that rescinded that rule July 1st. Still don't know if all airlines are doing the same. Has anyone had experience since then in regard to pets on planes?

It was my impression that all airlines would be changing back to allowing pets in cabin. I stopped worrying about this issue! Now, i'm confused again....a state I find myself in more and more frequently these days....sigh. Anyone have any recent experiences with bringing pets in cabin to Mexico?

The OP has left their cat in Texas and are here already because they were apparently not allowed to board with their cat. The date this happened is probably of importance because it may have occurred during the 30 some days the ban on cats in the cabin was in effect.

Now they are asking someone to help them get their cat from Texas to here.

While in Phoenix airport last week to fly into Guad, I noticed a fellow with his two cats in under-seat carriers about to board the same flight and apparently without any issues. This was on US Airways.

Even if you cannot bring your cat into the cabin, it can go in pet cargo.

Alaska Air previously allowed pets in the cabin. I don't know the status with them at the present. However, I need a non stop flight from Sacramento to Guad and the one they had is being discontinued this month..
