What ever happened to the animal forum of which blabbyabby was running for the rescure animals? I think the fundraisers were mostly for Anita's. She did some great fund raisers at Salivadors restaurant.

Jeanne B.

I started the animal food drive at the Riberas Shelter under ABC hoping that this would help ease the burden of feeding the many animals for the local animal rescue groups. This Food Drive is still being conducted each third Thursday of the month from 10:30 – 1:00PM by two volunteers from ABC and Anita’s Animals.

When I started ABC my only intention was to help with neutering and spaying. Anita’s Animals, Pepe Magana, and another rescue group were asked if they would like our help. Anita was very agreeable as was Pepe but the other rescue group declined our help. I had no other agenda but to spay and neuter as many animals as we could. Never in my life did I expect the reaction I received from several animal groups. One group was questioning why we needed another animal organization, one group decided they would not be involved because they did not like Anita, the other group accused me of taking funds from them and more, and the list goes on. When the Food Drive was started, an accusation was made by someone that we were not giving the food to a certain rescue group. In fact, there was none purchased in their name at that time. That was not of our doing, the purchaser would designate to whom the food was to be for and they would contact their choice of rescue group to pick up the food. There was never a conspiracy to hold food back from any group.

Instead of doing something that I enjoyed it started to become an ordeal, to the point it was making me physically sick. Being betrayed by someone that I trusted and respected was a big blow. Certain people starting vicious lies and doing all they could to start trouble. It makes you wonder, are they really for the animals.

The monies we raised at our last fundraiser in December were handed over to a volunteer for Anita’s for spaying and neutering. When the funds are depleted an accounting of how many animals were done will be posted on this site. That will be the last of Animal Buddies. Thank you all to the people that did help and support us.

Dottie - I'm sorry to read your account of what has happened. I fully understand that your intention was to help. I can't understand the unpleasantness that exists between the various animal groups here and seems to have existed for many years. I was certainly aware of it before we moved here several years ago. You'd think their main interest would be to help animals above anything else.

Thank you for what you have done to this point.

Sorry to hear that you are not going to continue with the fundraising - it is really really needed. Sometimes volunteering is not easy at Lakeside - hopefully you will reconsider, as your helps/skills are really needed.

Our role -= http://www.lakechapaladogcenter.com/ is limited to trying to increase the number of adoptions - by continually posting current photos. Whether or not this will actually create an increase in adoptions remains to be seen.

You can still buy food and take it to Anita at the tianguis. I'm sure she will appreciate donations of food and money for spay and neuter.

The community can purchase food for their choice of animal rescue at anytime during the month, not only on the third Thursday of the month. Just let the Shelter know who the food purchase is for and to notify their choice of rescue group that there is food waiting for them to pick up. Now more than ever they all need help to feed the overwhelming amount of animals they all have.

Thank you for caring.

And another quality volunteer bites the dust due to the constant lies, rumors and innuendoes. It is a wonder that anyone down here would volunteer for anything with all of this heaped upon almost all of them. Makes me sad and angry that so many peope need attention that they make up things about people that are doing good, so that they can have their damn 15 seconds of attention.

jrm30655, Amen to your post. This is the exact reason I don't volunteer any longer. I have a saying " In any volunteer organization, there are the doers and the complainers. The doers do and the complainers complain about what the doers do." There are some very nice people on this forum, but there are some very negitive ones also. There is a difference between having a debate and sharing one's opinion and just being spiteful. I sometimes have to "byte" my internet tongue and let it be.

It's also the reason I no longer volunteer. When you are the focus of one of these vicious attacks is makes life here very unpleasant and the normal tendency is to look for something more positive.

Very well said, Jeanne! I second your comments.

I, too commend Blabby Abbey for all she & the others do & have done in the past. I don't get the back-biting but I guess in some cases, egos make people forget the purpose of the volunteer effort. It's really a shame.
