I currently have Shaw for my TV and was wondering if Telecable offered a DSL and Phone package only without TV and the cost. Thanks.

I'm pretty sure you can have any combo of the three services Telecable offers.

You have to buy basic cable to get internet so that's probably true of phone also.

Not true for the internet part. You pay more for internet without Telecable TV but it is available. I can't speak to the telephone but my guess is that if you can get internet without TV you should be able to get telephone too if one were to be that brave.

the telephone servivce is part of their internet package - it would appear that they offer internet packages and tv packages separately as they do in other cities.

You are paying more because you are paying for basic cable even though you don't have it hooked up. Get a quote for internet. You cannot get a quote for internet without TV cable service.

But don't you have to have internet for their phone services to work, because their phone service is I believe VoIP. I know that's what happens in the US with Comcast. (VoIP= voice of internet protocol) and won't therefore your phone service be down when Telecable internet is down? Just wondering.

Were I live, yes I have had internet outages with Telmex, but almost never with my telmex phone

I don't believe all areas that have Telecable basic cable have Internet and digital TV service. We live in West Ajijic (low-rent district waaay below Johanson) and when I last checked we still can't get these services.

It is easy to ask in the Telecable office. Most of them speak English and they will be able to tell you if your area can provide service. I noticed that they have phone and internet without TV.

Recently Telecable has been bringing new lines in areas that were not serviced before. We just got connected two months ago. Before that Telecable didn't reach us. It's worth checking whether they have come to your area. It's possible because we live in lower downtown, Riberas, the last on all service companies' lists.

It's amazing how much extra service they will give, especially if you speak to them in Spanish. Even if it's broken Spanish,. They don't understand why they have to learn English to serve you. After all, we are in Mexico and so many of us never bother to learn, more than a few dozen words of Spanish, especially when basic Spanish is so much easier to learn, than basic English.

Most Mexican immigrants., where I live up north, speak much better English, than any any of us will do in our second language.

All I can say if that when I, (a D student in languages can learn basic street) Spanish, you can easily do much better than I without too much effort

The Telecable site doesn't state that you need internet service also I guess because the telephone service is actually an internet without an IP address that one has access to for the internet. I assume the internet and telephone service use the TV cable service to work and that's why at least basic TV is needed.

You can get internet only for $301 install, 5MB=$300, 8MB=$400, 10MB=$600 15MB=$1000. I think the most basic telephone was something like $120 if I remember right.

We were discussing that one must have at least basic cable TV for $301 to have the other services so add the price of basic cable to the price of internet and/or telephone service.

The prices are listed on the Telecable site:

I am correct. You must have or pay for basic cable to get internet. You do not need to use the TV cable but you are paying for it. The internet is in the cable TV wiring.

From the Telecable site: http://www.telecable...netPrecios.aspx

REQUIREMENTS
Having the basic television service.
Team: The minimum requirements are requested 128 MB RAM, 10 GB DD, network card (indispensable) works with any operating system and / or computer does not have any compatibility issue.

Maybe you can have the cheaper POP TV package and the lowest price internet for $301.

If your information is different, you need to tell Telecable that its prices, terms and conditions are wrong.

Well, I'm gobstruck - you mean to tell me that 3 different people in their office in Riberas told me a bald face lie? I can't believe that could happen in Mexico, I'm shocked. I'll probably be going that direction later today, I'll stop in and have a chat and if it turns out they were telling the truth, I'll be sure to pass along your suggestion.

Or, you might consider that they're jumping on an opportunity, with Telmex being screwed up, to take up the slack.

I have the manager's and the VP's personal email addresses. Why don't I email the manager in Chapala, CC it to the VP in Guadalajara, and see what the answer is?

Good idea, I'm curious as you might expect - and wow, I'm impressed, "personal" no less, during my years in business I always found it much more rewarding to be lied to from high levels, made me feel all warm and fuzzy, didn't make it any more honest or real, but it just gave that special "it's good to be lied to by the very best" sort of connotation.
