Anyone know what the problem is with TelMex - I reported a problem with my phone well over a week ago - and then went back Monday to tell them exactly what the problem was (my line was switched with someone elses - and I was able to give them the number of that phone) - and I guesss that wasn't enough information.

When I was there, he said problems usually fixed in 1 day - now 4. But I am now into 8 or 9. And I notice that Chapalaweather.net STILL does not have Telmex DSL service

Something major must have happened for the TelMex service to deteriorate

It took TelMex 8 days to fix my phone and they forgot the one in my bedroom. Now I can't even get a thing when I call except a recording. I am pretty fed up to say the least but what does one do?

It is called rainfall and happens every year. After a rainstorm ever
notice those green wire boxes they are open? They are trying to
dry out wet wires. Much of the coming and going crackling sound
on a phone is wet wires during the rainy season.

Switch to Telecable! I did, and now I have trouble free phone and internet in Riberas! I went through the hoops with Telmex, but I am not under any illusion that I have perfection!! Just better than before!! Time to show Telmex that they have competition, maybe that will make them look at their dreadful service!!

We are also using Telecable in lower Riberas. With the exception of the first few days when Telecable was still installing in the area we have had excellent service. We bought the fastest service with 15MBPS and we zip right along. Our phone works great too.

Most of you have probably never been up on your roof or looked at where the line enters your property, in MX, they just twist two wires together and leave them exposed. If they're touching anything wet they'll pick up noise etc. NOB connections are inside a weather proof container of some sort, here they just "let it all hang out". So, the other day when they rewired everybody on my block I went up later to see what was done, they didn't replace one splice, but were good enough to make sure the exposed wires didn't lay on the roof where wet leaves collect, they made a loop of scrap wire and hung the telephone line off the incoming CFE line? - now, that was very thoughtful of them.

About a year after moving into this house I completely rewired everything from the entry in and where I had to make connections they are either enclosed or at a minimum soldered so the connections are solid, of course it took 16 days for them to get the phone back online, but "my" wiring is solid.

I can use my phone just fine - internet just fine. But i am using someone elses number - they have switched the numbers someplace. And if someone calls me on that number, I do get the call. Likewise - that person is getting all my calls. These guys need some serious training.

Yes, welcome to the developing world.

However, keep in mind that Telmex is owned by the very most richest man in the world, whose net worth quoted in USD goes a LOT farther here. You'd think he would update his infrastructure so that these kinds of problems didn't keep happening! It's not like he doesn't have the money!! But, maybe that's HOW he became the richest man in the world - overcharging customers while under-performing for paid services.

Why should a little rain (and we need a lot more!) cause so many problems with so many people? It's not like we've had a tornado or hurricane or earthquake!.

Because Carlos is off to South America now, making more bizillion pesos there. He's forgotten about Mexico except for the bottom line which is rewarding enough not to invest in upgrades, or heck, even poles for that matter..

As we speak, I've been trying to upload a large number of pictures to my web page. About 25% of them don't go through, making this job extremely tedious when it should be a quick no-brainer routine. Otherwise, I thought my internet by TMex was working OK. But I was wrong! The icon showing the connection issues indicates that only about 3/4 of my "packets" are going through.

Benno's new guy, Miguel, told me the shop had to switch to Telecable for above mentioned reasons.

Question: If you switch to Telecable, what happens when you try to cancel your Telmex account? Do they keep charging you forever? Telecable has phone service, too? Are the cable, phone, and internet bundled at a discount? What do you pay for a medium to high speed internet package of those 3 items? I like Mexican cable, i practically never watch anything english. I was just letting my cable slide because i just moved and can live without TV.

Here's a ping monitor that I use from time to time, gives you an idea of servers uptime etc.

Seems our friends at Telmex are still in the ditch. This morning the phone rang twice, the usually means Mom Ledbetter is calling her son. Then later it rang and I answered, the person asked for someone, I said no, this was not their phone. Another 20 minutes and the phone rings and I answer and a person says "you're answering my phone"? - I laughed and said I'm answer MY phone, welcome to Telmex. Seems my line is crossed with another here in Riberas, the more things change, the more they stay the same.
