Posting for a friend: Looking for someone who would kindly receive a package from the VA and then bring it down to Lakeside in about a week (sometime this coming week). Thank you in advance for your replies!

Dear Artsnob (Ken, right?) ~ I don't think the timing will work for my friend; he needs the package before August. And these are prescription drugs. Thanks for ur reply.

Bringing in prescription drugs for someone else could be a very interesting, to say the least, proposition.

Why not just mail them? Had a couple things sent now thru the USPS. No problems. They don't open the packages and while delivery takes a few extra days, it's nothing too bad. So has been my experience in any case. Others may have different stories.

Just had a replacement food processor bowl sent by USPS from San Francisco to my home in Riberas. Took one week. The package was delivered to my door and had not been opened, no extra duties or charges.
They were sent International First Class.

How much was the postage?

Check first for medical supplies delivered to Mexico. You don't want the shipment to be retain by customs.

That's a whole lot better pricing than FedEx, DSL or UPS.

Thank you all for your input and information! The First Class International idea is especially interesting. ...The shipment will contain Prescription Drugs from the VA, however. He was a little slow in placing his order, unfortunately, so time is of the essence. He thinks he is going to have to have the package mailed to the Mail Boxes Etc. office in Laredo, put on "Hold - Awaiting Pick-up", then go up there by bus to pick up the package in person and carry it back over the border on the bus which would avoid all the Customs rigamaroll, etc. What a lot of time and hassle to finally get this wrapped up, but at least he will get these prescriptions into his hands in a timely manner.

Wouldn't buying them here be a lot cheaper than traveling to Laredo for "free" prescription drugs?

I would strongly suggest he call MBE to confirm they saw and honored his "Hold for Pickup" request before jumping on a bus. My experience with them would make me think there is a better than even chance they will just be sent along. Also fordtruckman makes an excellent point. How much would they cost locally vs. bus ride and motel for one night?

Why not send them to MBE here even though they charge a lot to do that it can't be much more than the bus roundtrip.

I have a friend who traveled to Laredo to pick up his Va medication. He could not get it all the way to Mexico.
