There will be a Dog Show this weekend at the Hotel Monte Carlo in Chapala, Friday, July 20 through Sunday, July 22. I believe it starts at 10 a.m. each morning, and goes however long in the afternoon.

It's an FCM event (I think FCM is the Mexican equivalent of the AKC in the USA?), so I imagine there will be all kinds of different breeds there.

In other words, it'll be just like the Westminster Dog Show in New York City. Or like the movie Best in Show. Or both.

Or not at all.

Regardless, the smart money has a local English Bull Terrier misbehaving incorrigibly, but in such a charming fashion that in the end he wins over the judges and takes home the big prize.

(Okay, that's not gonna happen. And I don't really know any other details about this event other than the dog that lives at our house will be making an appearance/causing destruction, etc. So please don't ask me for more details. Just thought I'd let other dog lovers know about it.)

That sounds like fun. Do you know if we can bring our dogs to watch? Or are only dogs participating in the show allowed?

Thanks,
Valerie :)

I'm just guessing but if your dog is not showing, you cannot take your dog to a dog show in the states and I doubt your dog will be welcomed at a dog show here. It is for show dogs, not as doggie meet and greet show.

Actually you can take your dog to the show. Obviously common sense should play a role as well - if your dog is unruly because you haven't bothered to train him, then leave him at home, nobody wants to meet him.

From experience, your dog wouldn't be likely to enjoy the show and it is designed to allow people to watch their favorite breeds. An excited barking dog in the bleachers would not be appreciated.

I thought FCI was the Mexican version of the AKC. That is what is on my Mexican Schnauzer's papers. The last show we watched in Guad amazed me. In the U.S. no one from outside the ring may in any way interact with a dog being shown. It is called double handling. Owners not handling their dog often go far enough away so they can watch but fur child can't see them. At the Guad show people outside the ring were running about, calling to the dogs in the ring and generally trying to make them show in a more flashy way. As I remember it was GSD's we were watching. I was amazed that they allowed it..

We went today and it was delightful. Lots of activity and beautiful dogs. Still time to go and enjoy if you wish. And, well behaved dogs on leashes are welcome as spectators. We saw probably 20-30 dogs there who were not "showing" and just there to enjoy the dogs. Didn't take ours based upon comments posted earlier.

A couple of vendors selling all kinds of neat stuff as well.

Enjoy,
Valerie :) :)

What breed won the show?
