We live in lower Chula Vista, 4 blocks North of the carretera. Yesterday around 1:00 pm I was on the computer when I heard/felt a powerfull and very short rumble. I was on high alert and RAN outside in the back yard, ( the sound came from that direction)checked the front yard... nothing. My wife comes home 30 min. later and pointed out a very large crack in our glass patio door. A section of glass about 1 in. in dia was knocked out (interior side) without leaving a hole and also leaving a crack about 5" long. I looked for any possible projectile on our terraza... nothing.

Has anyone else felt any possible earthquake around 1 pm yesterday?

Bill

It might have been the huge thunder crash that we heard. We saw a bolt of lightning and then almost immediately the thunder crash. Caused us both to jump. It was right over El Parque and rattled everything.

It can be that your house is still settling and the foundation is moving. You foundation may move after the rains and this put stress on your windows, walls and etc.

There is a fault (seismic) running down in Chula Vista. Eight years ago when we were looking for a house to buy we were showed a house in Chula Vista (corner property) with a pool. The cracks on the wall were so wide you could see the outside. We were scared. That same house was patched and sold.
In the same general area and behind where they sell Talavera we visited another house with the same problem. There is a lot of earth movement and settle in this general area. That is why we decided to buy an old house and remodeled. My house is 26 years old and not a single crack or broken tiles from major resettling of the house.

We lived across the street from the fault line in Chula Vista. Our house had stood for 30 years without a crack and without any sign of a problem. That being said, there is no telling when this area could get another earthquake like the one that opened up that fault line and other fault lines could develop.

As you can see from the links, I have provided, there was no eartquake that day. The reason for the crack can be just settling of the soil after the rains.
